Farmhouse bedroom ideas to help inspire your own unique space.
Whether you deem yourself a social fanatic or a devotee of solitary confinement, everyone needs their own personal space. While kitchens and craft rooms are high on the list for these spaces, I personally love retreating to my own private sanctuary in the master bedroom. And what better place to relax than by creating a perfect farmhouse bedroom you love.

Designer Tip: How to Style a Modern Farmhouse Bedroom
Styling a modern farmhouse bedroom involves blending rustic charm with contemporary elements. Use a neutral color palette that includes natural materials and cozy textiles. For a personal touch add in some antiques and compliment them with clean lines for a modern feel.
Farmhouse Bedroom Design Ideas
Make your bedroom the perfect place to escape to with the ideal farmhouse interior design style.
- Use neutral or light-colored bedding
- Natural wood accents
- Keep walls simple
- Light fixture as a focal point
- Farmhouse accent furniture
- Farmhouse accessories and Rugs
Use Neutral or Light Bedding
The bedroom color palette you pick can really make or break the look of the your master bedroom. Keep in mind that neutral colors for bedding, as well as area rug choice are very important in complimenting each other. A light bedroom color theme is a great idea to soften an intimate space.
I love the makeover I gave to our farmhouse master bedroom in our remodeled house. Choosing neutral bedding with a pop of color or throw blankets are a great way to keep it both simple and classy.
I used a white comforter, white pillows, a white bed skirt and accented with striped sheets. A throw and some toss pillows complete the modern farmhouse look. See more of this bedroom makeover here.
Light bedding with a light-colored headboard is also a fun option for a cozy farmhouse bedroom. Use a solid color throw at the foot of the bed to add a touch of color for a classic farmhouse look. If you plan on bringing in additional color you can also use different patterns and textures like with throw pillows, but keep it minimal. View this luxurious master bedroom here.
The bedding in this master bedroom is so fun! I love how YesMissy styled the bed with striking white and complimentary gray tones. You can never go wrong adding in a bit of buffalo check patterns for a farmhouse style bedroom.
Use Natural Wood Accents
Other components of farmhouse style include using natural wood accents in decorations as well as main design elements. Choose either a rustic style of wood for traditional farmhouse design or solid wood with clean lines for modern farmhouse decor.
White Shiplap walls, wood flooring like this pine or this engineered hardwood and bedroom wall decor can all bring in wood accents. Why not a try a DIY wooden headboard that is something you can make yourself. You can even add in wood beams like I did in our pantry for a rustic feel to your classic farmhouse style bedroom.
Using natural wood accents in your farmhouse decor is a great way to give it a farmhouse flair. I love the use of the wood accent pieces in this bedroom, like the bench and the rustic look window, as well as the decorative pieces above the headboard.
The wood floor and the wood ceiling, plus the gorgeous barn door just make this whole room amazing. Never underestimate the power of wood accents!
Also use wood elements in your sliding barn door like I did, leading into my master bathroom. This wood accent makes a world of difference in the rustic charm of this farmhouse feel.
Wall Simplicity in Your Farmhouse Bedroom
Keep your walls simple. White walls or wood wall accents will maintain that farmhouse feel in your bedroom. Try out a shiplap ceiling or this alternative faux shiplap for something more budget-friendly.
Shiplap
You'd be surprised at how much a simple wall design can impact the overall effect in a room. I just love the white colors and simple white shiplap accent wall in this bedroom. The fun cutout above the bed completes the space.
Here is another gorgeous example of shiplap walls, but this one adds a wood beam element that really makes the room look fantastic. We added a similar beam into our kitchen for more rustic appeal.
Wainscoting
You don't need any additional decor above the bed in this room (credit unknown) with the beautiful wainscoting and wall color. The wall design is the featured element and really pops against the lighter colored bed frame and headboard. See how to install wainscoting here. I added it in my long entry hallway.
Picture Frame Molding
These DIY picture frame walls from our own bedroom are a great idea for getting a custom look at a fraction of the price. Don't be afraid to try installing something like this yourself. Minimalist bedrooms that can still incorporate design style like this are ideal for a clean modern farmhouse style bedroom.
Add a Light Fixture as a Focal Point
Adding light fixtures like a large chandelier will do wonders for the overall theme and design of the room. I love the subtle gold and brown tones in this chandelier that really compliment the wood beams. It's the perfect ceiling design!
Black iron chandeliers like this one are definitely on the rise for popularity and style preferences. This one exemplifies modern farmhouse with its black iron elements. You can even tie in the black iron with a black metal bed frame. I used one here in this little girl farmhouse bedroom.
Although this room is simple in bedroom color scheme, the stylish elements are in no way lacking. I love this big chandelier hanging in the center with its rustic feel combined with French country influences.
Farmhouse Accent Furniture
A simple way to add farmhouse elements to a bedroom is by complimenting with farmhouse furniture. It's easy to create cozy farmhouse bedrooms with added accessories like rustic nightstands and bed frames.
Nightstands
Using rustic nightstands is a great example of classic farmhouse style, but you can also go with something a little more modern. These bedside tables are slightly distressed which ties in well with the vintage furnishings.
These nightstands are on each side of the bed in my master. They are extra large size. The carvings bring in so much texture to the space and make them look like vintage pieces (shop here). Both of the doors open to attractive display shelves for lots of storage.
Farmhouse Bed Frames
Choosing an appropriate bed frame will also tie in your farmhouse theme. Go with an updated wood frame like above, a black iron bed frame or metal bed frame, or even a classy tufted headboard to embellish a beautiful farmhouse country style.
You can also opt for a more rustic style with wooden headboards like this reclaimed wood bed frame in my daughter's room. Take a look at the other teenage girl bedroom decor ideas in this room.
Farmhouse Bedroom Decoration Accessories
Try adding in modern farmhouse decor to tie everything in together. Any of these items would be a great addition to the overall theme:
- Wicker baskets or chests
- Any wall art with farmhouse elements
- Wooden or wicker accent chairs
- Vases made with natural materials
- Area rugs
- Lanterns
- Greenery or branches
- Farmhouse style table lamps
