DIY Reclaimed Wood Full Bed

For Christmas a few years ago we remodeled our basement. Part of that was gifting our girls with their own rooms without them knowing! (full reveal here). The room was a big project and the budget was tight so I decided to build a reclaimed wood full bed for my daughter, using some reclaimed wood I had in the garage.

This bed was fairly basic to make, thank heavens. If you are looking to try out making some furniture, this is a great place to start! And as a bonus, it eliminates the need for a box spring.

I used Shanty 2 Chics plans for a twin platform bed. They have great instructions on their blog too!! I adjusted the plans a bit and made the bed a little bigger so it would fit a full mattress. Luckily the sizing was very simple to adjust. These pictures show the platform that the mattress will sit on.

I just used bun feet from Home Depot to put on the bottom of this bed so it wasn't sitting on the ground. These are easy to add if you want to elevate your bed frame.

Here is the headboard after it was all built. I love all the natural weathering. I wanted it to be a bit more grey so I used vinegar to weather it. You can view my tutorials on weathering wood here.

It is also fun to add decor to this headboard since it is so tall like our just be you cutout.

Didn't it turn out so great?!! This is an easy project that you can DIY too!!

Where did you get (or do you sell) the pink beaded chain along the back of the headboard?
