This year for Christmas instead of toys, my husband and I decided to give our girls their own rooms. They have been sharing a room for 3 years now. Let's be honest I was tired of the mess and fighting. They really needed their own space. Since we had the extra rooms it was just a matter of getting them done. When we started the project I don't think we realized just how much work they needed but I am so glad we stuck with it and got our daughers' rooms done.
Daughters' Rooms Reveal: Room 1
This was my oldest daughter's room before. I forgot to take a great before picture, but as you can see this room was a blank canvas.
It is after!
And here is the same corner now! I LOVE LOVE this wallpaper by Clairebella Studio's. I wanted an accent wall in this room and this wallpaper was perfect for that! The bright colors added so much personality. If you are thinking of installing wallpaper you can view my post of how we installed this wallpaper and a few tips too here.
One of my most favorite things about their rooms is their new zipper bedding! I got their bedding from Beddy's. See that darling ruffle? Underneath it is a zipper, so when my daughter is ready for bed all she has to do is unzip the side and climb into bed. Then in the morning to make her bed she just has to zip it back up....easy peasy!!! It's nice to finally have kids making their beds in the morning!
Wall Color for Daughters' Rooms
I chose to keep the colors neutral in both bedrooms. The wall color in both of my girls' rooms is Halo by Benjamin Moore and the moldings are White Dove by Benjamin Moore.
I built this bed with some rough sawn my papa brought me, that he found in the middle of a field. People, this is the good stuff!! I love the texture and the real weathering! If you look closely you can see how it weathered unevenly based on where it was in the pile of wood. It adds so much character and charm! I built this platform bed using Shanty 2 Chic's twin platform bed plans and I figured out the measurements to make it a full bed. Plans here
I love the bun feet on this platform bed and the Beddy's bedding is perfect for this style of bed to really show off all the details!
Now for the other side of her room! I bought this dresser about a year ago for $75...SCORE!! I updated it with a little paint.
My daughter is now 8 so I wanted to give her a room she could grow with. I had this tall stand up mirror stashed. It was black and gold and a bit out of date. To update it I used some chalk paint and now my daughter can twirl her heart out in front of her mirror!
I wanted to give each of my girls a sign I had made. This is one of my favorite quotes, we are all red heads with freckles and sometimes the world does not view that as beautiful. Believe me I know... but as I have gotten older and wiser (right?) I have come to realize my freckles and red hair are defining characteristics of who I am and I feel the same way about my daughter's cute freckles across her nose and her beautiful strawberry blonde hair. I hope this quote will be a reminder to her that she is beautiful just the way she is!
Daughters' Rooms Reveal: Room 2
Here is the before to my other daughter's room. It was previously used as a toy room... turning out to be quite the challenge in finding a place for everything. I think that is a sign that you have too many toys and it is time to get rid of stuff!
And here is the same corner! This room does not have very much light so I wanted to go with white walls. But let's be honest, just plain old white walls are boring! To add texture I shiplapped her walls (tutorial here).
This is the first thing you see when you walk through her door! I made her this reclaimed wood hello sign. I sell similar cutouts in my shop.
My daughter loves to color and create so I created this little area for her to store all of her crafting supplies. I found this fun twig wreath at Home Goods and I added our create cutout!
I also got Beddy's bedding for her room! I SERIOUSLY love this bedding, it is such a life changer for both of my daughters' rooms.
I made these shelves from the same wood I used to make my other daughter's bed I just painted them white to bring out the distressed details.
To go with my daughter's craft station I found this desk to double as a night stand. Do you see that light fixture in the mirror? It added the perfect amount of light while being stylish too. I wanted to bring in more metal to this room and this pink metal chair was perfect for that. And surprisingly enough they are pretty comfortable! Affiliate Link Here: Metal Chair
I got this darling rug from Rugs USA, it is so soft and plush. I love the pattern and since I was trying to lighten up this room having a white rug really helps to do that!
And last, but not least this beautiful gold mirror. When you have a dark room a mirror is a great way to bounce light and of course add some charm!
Over the next few weeks I will be breaking down different aspects of my daughters' rooms to show you a more in depth look of how we brought everything together!
