Tips for Picking the Perfect Throw Pillows

Accenting with throw pillows doesn't have to be hard. It's an inexpensive way to add color and dimension to a room. Plus, if you end up wanting to switch up your color scheme, it's much easier to change out pillows versus changing paint colors or furniture. Let's get to all the details on picking the perfect throw pillows.

Color

Pillows are a great way to bring in color.   I went with white/neutral furniture in this room and added a colorful rug.  This room needed a bit more color, so I accented by pulling colors out of my rug with these pillows.  Pillows are a great affordable way to add bold colors.

Use different sizes

I used a large solid pillow for the center and then used 2 smaller pillows on either side.  To tie everything together and bring in pink I used this lumbar pillow to go across the front. Using different sizes adds dimension and brings out the unique patterns in your pillows.

Texture

Bringing in textures gives a room more dimension and adds a fun element.  Adding texture allows different elements to play off of one another.  Rather then having a flat sterile white pillow the cording on this pillow brings it to life.  The cording creates a great contrast between my linen pink chair and this white pillow.

Mixing Patterns

When I am mixing patterns I like to have a solid, pattern/floral and a stripe. Don't be afraid to mix patterns.  When I am shopping for pillows you will often find me in the middle of isles laying them out together or if I buy them from different stores I always take pictures of the pillows I already have so I can compare them at the store.  I have found very few patterns that I don't like together.
