Navy and pink living room ideas that add style to your room design.
Are you looking for a unique color palette to breathe new life into your living room? As it turns out, combining navy blue and pink will create a timeless and elegant look that will be sure to make your guests envious. This combination of colors opens up a world of design possibilities, allowing you to create a cozy and inviting space while still making a dramatic statement.
Discover the perfect shades of navy and pink to use, five tips on how to combine them, and some ideas for accessories that will complete the look. Let the inspiration flow with some of my favorite color combinations.
Living Room Colors
What began as a project to incorporate a piano changed into a different formal sitting room from what I envisioned, but I absolutely love it! I used my rug as my base for color inspiration in choosing navy, pink and a yellow accent. Incorporating pink accents into your living room can be tricky. I didn't want this room to be too feminine, but I also appreciated the bold pink hue instead of a softer blush pink.
Follow along with these five tips on implementing a color scheme into your space.
Choose a Piece for Inspiration
It's important to have a base to pull your room color schemes. This is usually found in a rug you like or artwork you plan on hanging up. I used this rug from RugsUSA for inspiration in my color palette and added a neutral rug underneath for additional layering.
To make sure the navy and pink living room was not too overwhelming, I also pulled the yellow out of my rug. Decorating with three colors is always a good idea. It helps to balance out the overall look.
Go Neutral in Wall Color
Once you have your planned color scheme, you want the perfect backdrop. Pink walls might be your thing, but in this case it is best to stick with neutral walls for your main color, if you are choosing a bold palette. If your colors are more subtle, then dark walls or a colored accent wall can be a good focal point.
Use Furniture Color Accents
A great way to bring in color is with furniture accents. The best ways to do this are by pairing your main pieces in neutral colors with accenting furniture in your chosen colors.
Couches
I wanted to keep my main pieces of furniture neutral so I selected white furniture with this White Couch. Keep the white sofa as a neutral base and then use classic navy and pink throw pillows. (shop pillow here)
Chair and Pouf
I also brought in more neutral furniture like this ivory chair and pouf from Birch Lane. They tie in all of my accents and decor beautifully. Plus, you really get a pop of color with that hot pink pillow against the light backdrop.
Pink Accent Chair
And how about a pink chair to really get this party started? I found these chairs at Home Goods to create the perfect little sitting area. The pink chairs are a great choice for bringing in the bold pink colour palette without dominating the room.
Neutral Hutch in Navy and Pink Living Room
Large furniture pieces can especially make a big impact in any room. This was my very first hutch that I splurged on. It didn't look like this when I brought it home (see before here). I wanted to keep it neutral but add blue tones without being overwhelming. To add color I painted the back a deep navy. The back makes the milk glass decor really stand out which is especially lovely. For additional help on curio refinishing, you can also check out this post.
The dark blue cushion pairs nicely with the blue paint color in the hutch.
Navy and Pink Living Room Decor Accents
An easy way to add in some of these complementary colors is with room accessories.
Lattice Sign Cutout
I created this sign to match the pattern on the doors of the hutch. The gold undertones of the wood tie in nicely with the yellow hues while providing beautiful wall art.
Wall Art for Navy and Pink Living Room
Additionally, I made this reclaimed wood sign to match the room. See my tutorial for making them here. The colorful sign makes a bold statement against the light gray walls. It is also the perfect place to display a feature wall in our navy and pink living room.
Small Accessories
Make sure to tie in navy, yellow and pink accessories too because small items are easy and thrifty. I picked up these vases at Target. (you can get them here) The light tones are certainly a nice contrast to the bold pink and blue shades.
I got these bright pink beads from my friend Kristi, you can shop them here. Also, I found this clock at a garage sale and painted it a neutral grey to match.
And don't forget the selection of pink and blue pillows to accessorize the soft furnishings.
Lighting as a Design Element
Lots of natural light is ideal for any room. But you also want to have lighting fixtures that add to your design. This beautiful starburst light is from Lighting Design and it is the perfect element for this pink and navy modern space. It is also fun and I love the way the gold pops off of the light walls.
Lighting is becoming a fun design element to lots of rooms. You can also see that the gold light pulls in the wood tones as well as the yellow hues in our featured colors.
