Best Ideas for Stylish Grey Couch Throw Pillows

Let me share a few of these important elements with you and how I choose my own throw pillows to make the best arrangement for our living space.

Pillow Types

Before choosing the best throw pillows, you need to know what type you want and the different sizes. I prefer to buy down pillow forms and pillow covers to go over them, rather than decorative pillows. Covers are easier to store and cheaper.

I also love to rotate them depending on the look you want for that particular season. Plus, when you have a down form pillow, you can karate chop them for a nice classic look.

It's also important to choose appropriate sizing for your seating options. I usually pair a large size and small size together in square pillows. 18x18 and 22x22 are my go-to combination that provide enough visual interest for the room without taking up a ton of space on the couch or accent chairs.

If you want to add in a change of dimension, specifically to a longer space, a lumbar pillow like this rectangular one is also a great option for a modern look. But ideally, I stick with new throw pillows in rectangular shapes for versatility and beautiful contrast.

Color Combinations for Grey Couch Throw Pillows

When it comes to choosing your desired color combination, keep an open mind. You may find that what you thought you wanted is not what looks best for the entire room. And if you really get stuck on deciding color choices, you can always looks to your living room's area rug for inspiration (if you have one).

First, decide if you prefer to have your space emphasize cool tones or warm tones. With my family room, I love to embrace warmer tones to create a relaxing and cozy space. For a living room, you might want cooler tones for a more formal or elegant vibe. It all comes down to personal preference.

Brown Couch With Grey Throw Pillows

My family room has two couches - a brown couch and a dark grey couch. I love the West Elm vibe of pairing neutrals together as a cohesive color palette, so I opted for tying in dark charcoal pillows with a cream-colored one. Dark and light pillows create an interesting contrast while still providing warmth to the space.

You can see that next to our brown couch, there is also a darker grey couch. Dark grey couch throw pillow ideas can easily consist of pairing grey on grey pillows, a pop of color, or any other neutral. There are a lot of shades that can pair well with a grey sofa.

For this dark grey couch, I opted for a grey and cream busy pattern, offset by a dark olive green and cream plaid pillow. The textured pillow blends into the dark couch, while the olive green is just enough accent color to change up the color palette.

For this light grey couch, black pillows are paired with white pillows for a bold but classic combination. While some may avoid dark colors on a light couch, don't be afraid of this color combo. Black is especially bold and full of vibrancy, while also providing a show of elegance.

Light Grey With Green

Another color that goes well with a grey sofa is green. For the spring season, I added in a white toss pillow and a green corduroy pillow in my living room. The green is soft and brings a lovely warmth to this interior spring atmosphere. I love that the green hue really emphasizes the surrounding greenery and other decor.

I used two slightly different covers for the decorative throw pillows on our light grey couch in the upstairs bonus room. Instead of using different colors for these cute throw pillows, I opted for similar horizontal patterns and kept the white and dark grey hues. This helps the space to have more fluidity. For the most part, I use a throw pillow cover on all of my pillows, but this olive and cream pillow was too good to pass up. I love the subtle coloring that blends well with the dark charcoal and cream. The tufts and tassels are the perfect choice to add texture and intricacy into the design. Adding texture can make a neutral room feel less boring and can even create an elegant atmosphere.

Again, here is a combination of white and charcoal on a dark grey couch and chair. All of the patterns are different, but keeping the palette similar makes the room visually flow together.
