Use stylish wallpaper to create a wall mural that will make a big impact in any living space.
When you move into a new home, each room is a blank slate with white walls in need of style. It's hard to settle on the ideal choice with so many options for wall treatments and designs.
Letting each of our children pick their desired room design turned out to be quite a challenge. When your daughter requests a black room instead of a pink and pastel bedroom, you find a way to make it work! Luckily, we found a beautiful wallpaper mural that fit exactly what we needed.
Sometimes parents can be domineering when it comes to interior design for kids' rooms. But all kids have their own unique style. A great way to include their style preference is by letting them help with the interior design of bedrooms and have a say on color scheme.
When I asked my younger daughter what kind of room she wanted she said black. Yep, the single color BLACK. Not exactly the blush pink and gold palette paint colors I had in mind.
So how can you create a moody black room that is still warm and inviting? Luckily, I found her requested favorite colors with a beautiful dark floral wallpaper mural in a large-scale design. It bridged the gap between the black color palette my daughter wanted and what I wanted for the room design.
Dark Floral Bedroom Wall Mural
A wall mural is essentially a traditional wallpaper's modern counterpart. Though unlike traditional patterned wallpaper, a wall mural is a large picture put onto a wall or ceiling. It can usually be more customized for the design and isn't typically patterned.
I found this beautiful dark floral mural from 'ANeWall' and fell in love with it. It was the dramatic mural design element I was looking for to put on this blank wall! And the perfect backdrop for the canopy bed. Wallpaper is an easy way to create an accent wall in any room.
Now, while wallpaper has not always had the highest of reputations in the home decor world, this one was a cinch to install. My daughter and I installed the wallpaper together in one day. I love when I can include my kids in the design process and DIY projects.
In this room we covered the entire wall behind her bed. The dark background with the large floral design makes a big impact on the entire room. I love how it turned out. She made a great choice on the color scheme.

Accents to Compliment Bedroom Wall Mural
When decorating a bedroom, it's very important to include design elements that will compliment the chosen wall art. But- a word of caution. When you include bold patterns on your walls, it is best to keep accent pieces more neutral based and use texture.
Rug and Pouf
Since this wallpaper is so bold, it is important to keep the rest of the accessories neutral to prevent any clash with each other. Too many busy patterns can make the space feel chaotic and overwhelming.
This rug is perfect. It compliments the colors in the mural but doesn't distract from the focal point, which is the feature wall. Another great thing about this rug is the pattern helps to hide stains that may happen. It is also super soft on your feet.
I also found this coordinating pouf . I love the geometric designs and texture it adds to the space.

When you have a room with vaulted ceilings, take the opportunity to add a canopy bed to maximize the height in your space. Not only are canopy beds beautiful, but they also help bring the eye upward to the ceiling. In this case it may not be the ceiling, but at least to the beautiful chandelier from Progress Lighting.
We found the perfect modern nightstand to compliment the room. The open space allows room to display a few decor pieces like the neutral vase and some greenery. I also love the pop of gold against the black from the table lamp.
But the added drawer is also essential for providing a place to keep a few things hidden too. I love the glass top and how wide it is. Shop it here.
Sitting Area Furniture
I created a functional sitting area next to the bed. This is a cute space for reading or doing homework. I love the soft pink the chair and foot stool added to her room. Shop here
As you can see I was able to incorporate the pink and gold color scheme that I wanted with subtle accents. It is looks gorgeous with the black floral wallpaper.
This bedding is from the Company Store. I am super impressed with the quality. I got her a duvet cover that we can remove easily. When you mix white bedding and kids that means there will be lots of washing, so easy removal access is essential. Her sheets are a blush pink sateen; they feel amazing.
The bedding is cozy and with the contrasting color makes for a fun and stylish kid room.
Curtains to Match Floral Wallpaper Mural
When you have a large window that takes up the majority of a wall, sometimes the space can feel a little empty. A great option to make this wall stand out a bit more is by spicing it up with curtains. Even if they are not utilized for functionality.
To do that, I used these curtains from Amazon. I also got the rings and rod from Amazon. I chose to go with a curtain that had darker colors because it compliments the bold colors of the wall mural on the next wall. This is a great inexpensive way to add elegance in a bedroom!
Creating an area that my daughter could work on her homework as well as her art projects was important to her.
These magnetic organizers were the perfect thing to keep this area clean and organized. The wooden desk is simple but beautiful and adds a natural element and warmth to the space. Now just add a few decor items and it is done!
Black Floral Bedroom Wall Mural
My daughter loves her black room and I'm pretty content with how it turned out! The room is beautiful. The best part is it reflects her style and personality.
One of my favorite things about this room is the whole wall of wallpaper with larger-than-life designs. It is perfect for a pop of color and it is a work of art.
Contemporary wall murals are a fun way to add personality to any room. Unlike traditional wallpaper, a wall mural allows for a little more creativity and unique design. And you only have to cover one wall for a beautiful accent instead of three. Explore the infinite possibilities with this beautiful new wall treatment.
