Learn how to hang curtains with curtain pins for a more custom and expensive look. And how to hang curtain rods and get it right the first time.
When we moved in to our new home, I was pricing curtains it was a little... or maybe A LOT out of our price range. I love the look of curtains. I started doing some research on how to get the expensive curtain for a fraction of that cost. The trick? Curtain pins!

How to Hang Curtain Rods

Start by finding the studs. You can't always install curtains right were the stud is, I always like to check. Installing into the stud will always be the strongest way to hang curtains.

Hint: If the stud is only off by an inch or so, I install the bracket into the stud. Then I make the rod hang over a little bit more so it looks balanced.

Measure how far you want the curtain bracket to be from the ceiling and from the window.
As a rule of thumb: I measure 6" down from the ceiling and at least a foot from the window.

If you could not find a stud close enough you need to use drywall anchors. I would recommend using these one's rather than the anchor's it comes with. As the ones with it won't hold very much weight. You may end up with curtains on your floor
How to use Curtain Pins
Now for the curtain pins! This is what will give your curtains the custom feeling for half the price. I add my pins every 4 inches. If a loop gets in the way I just cut it off as I don't need the loops. For a standard panel I use about 13 pins.

Use the sharp edge to push it through the fabric. The top loop will be used to put the ring on. See picture below

I have found it is easiest to put the loops on my curtain rod, followed by the curtains.

Now it is time to hang the curtains. I only used 1 panel on each side. These curtains are for decoration only. I have roller shade on my window that we use to close our windows at night.

Isn't it amazing how much these curtains warmed up the space.

I like the look of a slight pile of curtains on the floor. Since these curtains don't move that isn't a problem.
If You Don't Want Your Curtains to Touch the Ground
- hang them closer to the ceiling
- order shorter curtains
- hem the bottom of them with a sewing machine or hem tap

I hope this helps you install your curtains!
