Choosing An Accent Ceiling That's Right for You
Instead of a traditional accent wall, why not try designing a ceiling space to die for? I love to have a unique wall pattern in my rooms, but implementing a modern ceiling design is trending with current fashions.
Why Pick A Ceiling Accent?
- Eliminate cost of several matching walls instead of one ceiling panel
- Help define a space
- New modern look
- Big impact on the entire room feel
- Adds dimension and texture
- Create more intimate spaces
- Make a small room appear more open
Ceiling Accent Designs
Alcove Planks
This long entry hallway makes a defining statement with its exquisite design. If you want something simple that still makes the ceiling pop, a wood treatment is a great suggestion. You don't have to worry about applying a paint color and the wood paneling is a great way to add some natural elements.
I love the wood design portrayed in each little alcove of the ceiling as it embellishes the long hallway. Mixing white woodwork with natural wood is a very classy look. The link wasn't working with this picture, so unfortunately I do not have a source.
Painted Shiplap
White ceilings be gone! I am loving my son's painted ceiling. We opted to hang shiplap up on the ceiling instead of the wall. And though white shiplap is quite trendy, I decided to use a darker color to draw a greater contrast against the white walls. This dark ceiling color creates a cozy vibe with the charcoal woodwork of the bunk bed.
I love that the room is still so bright and lit, yet the DIY accent ceiling provides just enough design element to make it an incredible space!
Open Plank Ceiling
Wooden planks can really make a striking statement with a solid color contrast, especially when you have a wide open ceiling without other design elements. Here is another super easy way for planking your ceiling, including a tutorial for planking a popcorn ceiling!
Coffered Ceiling
These lighter shade coffered ceilings may be more traditional, but they are not any less classy if you want a statement ceiling. A coffered ceiling is a great option for providing the illusion of a spacious room and absorbing sound. This is an ideal design for high ceilings to create more depth and contrast.
Accent Ceiling with Wood Beams
And how about adding some wooden beams to accent your space? I LOVE wood beams so much. I added some in my new kitchen and also used them in my previous farmhouse pantry. They can add so much character to your room and dress it down or dress it up. Plus, the bold straight line is a definite focal point against a white backdrop. Source here.
Wooden Beams Design
But now let's take those wood beams one step further to this amazing beauty! Solid single beams are gorgeous, but I am loving this design even more with its stunning tribute to rustic farmhouse style. The accent color of the wood is very striking with the neutral wall color. Source unavailable.
White Wood Beams for Accent Ceiling
Don't let the dark beams turn you against this look, especially if you really don't love the darker colors of some wood stains. White beams can be just as elegant and sometimes more fitting for your designed space.
For example, in this room the ceiling has gorgeous style with its white beams, but the beams highlight the elegant light fixture hanging from the angled ceiling. The room has an overall cozy and elegant atmosphere with these design elements.
Bold Ceiling Design
Are you willing to change up traditional hues for bold colors? Adding a bright color and intricate design like this is definitely fun to look at. This gorgeous illustration could easily be imitated with painter's tape if you aren't able to add the trimmed design.
Hang some accent lighting in the middle of the room and you have yourself a stunning room design. A style like this design is a great option for low ceilings because they make the room seem taller than it is.
Geometric Shaped
This ceiling design is simple, yet very eye-catching with the geometric ceiling and large spherical light fixture hanging from it. I love that your eye is drawn to the square shape in the middle. What a stunning focal point to view!
Herringbone Style
If herringbone patterns are your thing, don't be hesitant to try it on your ceiling like pictured in this kitchen. A herringbone pattern like this can really bring a nice accent to a neutral colored kitchen.
I also utilized a herringbone style with my new mudroom and connecting bathroom floor. It is one of my favorite neutral floor designs!
Painted Ceiling
If you don't want to add molding or wood to your ceiling, painting it can add a big impact too. I painted my office ceiling to match the walls. It created the perfect cozy atmosphere to my front room.
Finding the perfect ceiling design for your space is a multifaceted approach that requires careful consideration of various factors. Ultimately, the design you choose must reflect your tastes and the theme of your home, while also offering functional benefits.
Now that you have the tools to find the perfect ceiling design for your home, don’t be afraid to explore different options and strike the best balance between aesthetic appeal and practicality. The ceiling you choose says a lot about who you are and the kind of home you live in. Have fun with it, and remember—the sky’s the limit!
Happy Decorating!
