A fun variety of minimalistic DIY Valentine's decorations for craft haters.
It's finally time to put away that Christmas tree because Valentine's Day is just around the corner. But for those who aren't exactly Martha Stewart skilled when it comes to crafting, this holiday can also bring a sense of dread. Fear not, my non-crafty fellows.
In this article, we'll explore some easy and affordable DIY Valentine's Day decorations that will make your home feel festive and romantic without requiring advanced crafting skills or creativity. Get ready to impress with these simple yet charming ideas.
Minimal Valentine's Day decor in my home is a personal preference. After having a house covered in festive Christmas decorations, by the time this famous day of affection rolls around there is a need for simplicity. And easy DIY Valentine's Day decorations that require bare minimum skills are just the thing!
You'll also want to think about where to put your decorations. A large entry or blank wall near your front door entrance can be the perfect spot for your Valentine display. If you don't have these decorating spaces available, other great ideas may be a fireplace mantel display, a side table or wall in your living room.
Top 20 Non-Crafty Ideas for DIY Valentine's Decorations
DIY Love Sign
A themed sign or picture is any easy option that requires no crafting skills whatsoever. I opted to create my own sign when I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I hand wrote the 'I love you" and then created this unique design to form a collage wall.
These free printables are available for you to grab too (download here). You will need two of each design to replicate this picture format.
You can print these at home or take them to a print shop for higher quality. I wanted these to look like a high end print job, so I took them to Alphagraphics and printed these on cardstock for under $3.00.
If you want to add a frame, check out Walmart or even a dollar store. I found my frames at Walmart for $8 each.
For under $35, this is a pretty easy DIY project that can be changed throughout the seasons and not just for your Valentine decorations. The glass can be left in these frames to protect the prints or you can take the glass out if the glare bothers you. Again, super easy for the non-craft fans.

Tulips in a Candy Vase
Looking for some kind of floral display for your Valentine's home decor? This idea from Evolution of Style is so simple and fun. Grab a clear vase or a mason jar and fill it with your flower of choice. Faux flowers are easiest unless you have another container inside your larger one, to house the water for fresh flowers. Fill the rest of your jar with coordinating candy colors that match your tulips.
This is perfect for a centerpiece on your dining table, if you like limited decor where you gather for meals. Or you can even place it on a fireplace mantel or coffee table.
Add a Valentine Wreath
A wreath is not only meant for your front door. If no crafting is what you prefer, there are several different types of Valentine's Day wreaths you can buy and hang anywhere in your home.
I used this simple green wreath as a focal point and attached my XOXO cutout for a Valentine theme. This is an easy DIY option that requires minimal effort.
DIY Valentine's Day Garlands
Garland is a perfect way to go if you want some embellishment that won't be overwhelming. Hang it on your railing or a fireplace mantel. I added garlands in front of these signs to bring a pop of color and a little more texture to the backdrop of this display. The contrasting dark and light pink hues with white really stand out against the black.
Why Use Garlands in Your Decorating?
- They are perfect for framing a design space
- Adding character to a wall or table
- String them along a banister or railing
- Many different kinds - foliage, felt, paper, tassels
- Customize to your needs
- You can make your own (only if you want to!)
These tassels at Target are perfect. This tassel garland gets to do double duty because after using them in my Valentine's Day decor, I am putting them on my daughter's headboard to add to her bedroom decor.
For an optional craft, you can make a felt garland too. I made this one out of felt hearts and felt balls here. But there are plenty of themed Valentine garlands available on Amazon for some thrifty decor.
