Create a beautiful pool gazebo space to enjoy through the warm season.

When you have a limited amount of space in your home it's important to take advantage of your backyard home design. With warm weather coming in the next few months, make the most of your outdoor living area with modern pool gazebo ideas to enjoy all summer long.

A gazebo helps creating the perfect backyard living space

Make your backyard gazebo the perfect place to entertain friends and family all season. This YouTube video gives you a visual demonstration showing how I made the most of our outdoor living spaces with a poolside gazebo.

6 Perfect Pool Gazebo Ideas for Summer

  • Use a gazebo
  • Bring in stylish furniture
  • Use pillows to accent
  • Add plants
  • Add a rug
  • Don't forget lights

Use a Gazebo

Don't have the budget for a pool house? Adding a gazebo or pergola to your backyard is more cost-effective and one of the best ways to make use of your outdoor space in warmer months. This is an especially important feature to accompany your existing hot tub or swimming pool. Whether your pool is big or small, having an additional seating area that provides extra shade to gather on sunny days is essential.

A poolside pavilion like this also acts as a patio cover in your pool area if you lack trees and sufficient shade like many new subdivisions do. Why not make this outdoor living room as comfortable as possible with a fun covered patio? You can even extend it over an outdoor kitchen area for multipurpose use.

A gazebo is also a great way to help to define your intended space as designated entertainment areas, hopefully keeping a gathering contained to one spot of your yard.

There are many types of gazebos you can add, whether that is DIY built or installed by a professional. Our previous farmhouse home had a small wooden pergola built over the back deck, and another pergola attached to the front porch. For this backyard space we opted to go with an aluminum gazebo we purchased from Costco. You can check out my review on this gazebo to see you like this gazebo design.

Bring in Stylish and Usable Furniture

Outdoor patio furniture can help to define the lounge area in your patio gazebo. I wanted this area to be left open towards the swimming pool and surrounding area for easy access. (Read more about choosing the best pool designs here.) So to create a more open space to the outdoor pool area, I arranged relaxed patio furniture into a horseshoe shape.

The outdoor furniture that I chose from Article includes a sectional couch that is nice and oversized, making it the perfect place for comfortable seating as well as sleeping. The chairs are a great addition for texture and bringing in natural materials, while still complementing the sectional.  I have had these boho style chairs for 3 years and you can see how awesome they look.

Creating an outdoor gazebo that includes a comfortable conversation space is key to a successful gathering place.

Accent with Pillows

For more pool pergola ideas, decorating with pillows can take a blank slate and help to bring a cozy warmth as well as added texture. I love to soften a space with beautiful textiles because it looks more comfortable and engaging. I used 2 different pillows to fill in this corner of our poolside structure and then these fun lumbar style pillows on either side. To help bring the whole pool pavilion together I used the same lumbar ones on the chairs.

Pillows are also a great way to tie in your color scheme. Consider adding in a throw or two for added comfort. I got these pillows at Target, I will link all the items below.

Add Plants to Your Pool Gazebo Area

Plants are ideal for bringing in natural elements to indoor-outdoor living spaces. Notice that in any landscape design or interior space, greenery is always a good idea to bring variety of decorative elements.

They also help to add color and textures without taking up limited space outside. You can use faux branches or faux plants if you want something that is less maintenance. But it is also the perfect way to add a few real plants to your exterior decor.

I love the look of the lavender tree next to this pot full of lots of flowers.  The pots also add a fun texture to the space. I went with a black woven pot to match the modern design furniture. This tree is faux and the perfect addition for behind the sofa to help draw your eye upward.

Accent with an Outdoor Rug

Another classic design idea for this poolside gazebo is to bring the entire space together with a rug. I love Ruggable rugs because they are washable and can easily be spot cleaned. You can see my review on these rugs here. Washable rugs are the best thing ever for someone who doesn't love regular maintenance. Use them for your seating area, pool deck and dining area outside.

Another great thing about a rug is the ability to bring in color. I love the colors in this rug and coordinated the color palette with my pillows.

Use Lights

Don’t forget to install lights. Natural light is great for the day but putting up lights is important for night time parties and socialising.  Add some solar lights, so they flip on every night and then charge during the day.

Our hanging lights are also a fun design element even when they are off.  They don’t give off tons of light so I added these string lights around the gazebo too. Look how awesome they look reflecting off the outdoor pool at night!
