In this article, you'll learn all about brown Christmas decorations, from where to buy them to how to best incorporate them into your decor. So, if you're ready to get creative, let's jump in and explore the rustic elements and earthy vibes associated with brown and green Christmas decoration ideas.

Easy Brown Christmas Decoration Ideas

Last year I changed up my traditional Christmas colors and went for a neutral Christmas decor theme in my home. This year I wanted to continue that trend of neutral colors, but also add in something new. Incorporating a brown palette into the existing decor is any easy way to bring in a new element and give your home a fresh look.

Complimentary Colors

Before you unleash the decorating frenzy this Christmas season, make sure to avoid a style fiasco by correctly pairing your colors for a cohesive look. Brown can look really bland and dull on its own. This is why you have to pair your main hue with at least one other color, in addition to using different shades of the brown family. It adds more stylistic dimension and visual appeal.

I paired the brown with a green palette. This is a great color combination for a neutral Christmas tree. The brown and green Christmas tree ideas pay homage to elements of nature by bringing earthy tones and a woodsy vibe.

The best way to use your palette is to extend your primary color from the floor base to the height of your focal point. In this case, we can begin with the space occupied by the themed tree and extend it to the height of the tree topper. Let's start by discussing the base.

I added elements of brown to the floor space by using dark brown ribbon on my Christmas gifts. These are both decorative and practical. If you want an easy way to cut down on decor costs, use your presents as DIY Christmas decorations. To tie in more brown Christmas decor, I also incorporated a brown basket to host additional greenery. Another option to consider is adding in a tree skirt in the desired color.

Incorporate Brown Ornaments

Use brown Christmas ornaments for your real or artificial tree. Instead of a traditional green tree for my Christmas living room, I opted to use my white Christmas tree. Brown ornaments look especially stunning against the backdrop of a flocked tree. If you don't have a large tree already, snag one below.

I used a variety of ornaments for my brown Christmas tree this year, including ball ornaments, bells, ribbon and branches. I made my own DIY velvet ornaments to cut down on cost this year. Make sure to include different styles in your color palette. I used multiple shades of brown as well as some brassy and copper tones that tie in perfectly.

Oversized bells were used in place of large ornaments. The different textures add a unique look to the tree. And I also included some of my homemade mercury glass copycat ornaments because they fit so beautifully with the neutral ornaments.

Adding Brown Christmas Decorations to Greenery

If you're looking for more green Christmas decoration ideas, adding garland to your fireplace mantel is a great way to go. Whether you choose to put up fresh greenery or a faux garland, you have a lot of options.

Add in elements of your main color into your greenery. This is an easy way to carry your theme over to other areas in your home. For example, I utilized the same garland as last year, but added in beautiful chocolate brown strands of ribbon and the bells onto one side of my asymmetrical garland. Pine cones are an additional brown accent that appeals to the earthy, rustic style.

And don't forget to add more green Christmas decorations like these mini trees. It provides lovely dimension and texture to the woodsy scene.

Use Brown Textile Accents

Continue your brown theme by using toss pillows and throw blankets. Not only do these make your space inviting and cozy, but they also help to tie in your color palette. Pillow covers are so easy to change out for each season and cost very little. Plus, you can reuse them each year! I added green and light brown throw pillows to our neutral couch and accent chairs.

Accent chairs and furniture pieces also work great with a brown color scheme. Whether you go for a classic style or modern table, you’ll find plenty of options to fit your decor. In our house, I chose two chairs in a light fabric with wooden legs. They look fantastic with the modern wood and metal coffee table to make the room look even more inviting.

Don’t forget about artwork as an essential brown textile accent. A few strategically placed pieces can really bring the space together. Warm tones like golds and greens compliment the brown palette and can really help to engage the eye and give the room a unique vibe. Even a mirror can bring in the natural brown tones with the frame. Keep it simple for a modern feel.

Brown Table Decor

Use brown table decor for stylish accents. Brown table decor can instantly add a touch of sophistication to any room. Consider adding glass ornaments, a decorative bowl, or a distressed wood tray to create the perfect contrast against natural wooden furniture. It's easy to mix and match these decor pieces to create interesting arrangements that will evoke an inviting atmosphere.

I opted to add in a few more small figurines for the tabletop brown Christmas decorations. The small rustic trees tie in nicely to the existing wood tones. And adding in Christmas lights or candles is always an emphasis on elegance. A few other tabletop brown accessories to consider:

  • Winter branches or stems
  • Wood sign
  • Deer figurines
  • Wood bead garland
  • Wooden vase or bowl
  • Mini Christmas houses

They give off a cozy vibe and bring a bit of nature indoors. Brown decorations are timeless, allowing you to mix antique, modern, and rustic elements together. Plus, you won’t have to break the bank to put together your own Christmas masterpiece.

With so many brown decorations, from wreaths to trees, lights to stockings, you can create a winter wonderland with just a little effort and imagination. Creating a festive and inviting atmosphere with brown Christmas decorations is a perfect example of art in practice. Let’s make every holiday season a little more special with a warm and inviting space.
