Top 7 Indoor Christmas Lights Ideas
Indoor lights are super helpful in establishing a beautiful focal point for every room in your house. Let's take a look at some of my favorite ways to define a space with these indoor Christmas lighting ideas.
Use a Small Indoor Firepit
This small indoor firepit is a great way to set up a beautiful light display for an intimate setting. The sleek and modern design is a nice choice for those who appreciate a nod to contemporary styles. Also note that these modern fire pits use rubbing alcohol to burn.
Use it for areas with less space like on a coffee table or in this case, our dining room table for a special occasion dinner. The light provides just enough of a warm glow to set the mood for an intimate dining setting.
See how else you can style your dining table centerpieces for the Christmas season. I added some neutral evergreen garland and small tree figurines to complete the table look. It pairs nicely with the green garland above that hangs over the table on the dining room light.
Modern Candlesticks
For this special dinner setting, I also opted for the natural glow of tall wax candles with modern candlestick bases. These sleek black and gold candlesticks are perfect for illuminating the dinner table with a soft glow. Plus, the differences between the lengthy lines of the candlesticks compared to the slight design of the fire pit is a fun contrast.
Candles are perfect for adding more mood lighting to any intimate space. If you don't love the idea of using real candles to contribute to the mood, there is another option to use a flameless candle. It's very comparable to these real ones. You can see more details on that candle below.
Display Lit Twig Branches
Twig branches with mini lights are a great idea for any room where you have a vase or pot on display. An office space, a living room, bathroom or even a kitchen countertop are ideal areas for this. You can add these branches to a container of existing winter stems like these flocked pine cones, illuminating the faux snow appearance and making it seem even brighter.
I love the bright light of these indoor Christmas lights against the dark wall in this office space. For this specific arrangement I used 3 lit branches with the existing holiday stems. If you don't love the flocked look, you can also go with traditional winter greenery or berry branches.
These light decorations can be used inside or outside as long as it's somewhat protected from the elements. You can also style the light branches along your fireplace mantel or above a doorway.
Use a Birch Twig Tree for Indoor Christmas Lights
If you want to go a little bigger and a lot more bold, try adding a large tree or two in your living space. This is an easy way to bring in additional indoor Christmas lights that take up more space. Plus, who doesn't love to create their very own winter wonderland indoors?
My particular favorite are these birch twig trees with warm white lights already intact. I purchased these in the 6 foot and 4 foot sizes so I could group them together in clusters to make it more lifelike. The birch exterior makes these trees feel real. And the light illuminates them so well, creating a spectacular focal point to greet guests in my front entry.
If you already have some faux trees, you can add a string of lights to the tree branches yourself to create a similar DIY look. This would work with similar trees to the birches, or even if you have small mini pine trees. If not, these birch trees are perfect for using inside your home or for adding a winter scene to your front porch. Set them on a timer for more ease of use.
Incorporate Lights in Your Mantel Garland
Another simple way to add indoor Christmas lights to your holiday decorations is by adding twinkle lights or a strand of fairy lights to your garland on your fireplace mantel. These battery operated twinkly lights are perfect for that!
As your mantel is such a commanding feature in a living room or family room, this is a good spot to illuminate this focal point. Not only does the light warm the room into a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, but it also highlights the architectural and design features of your fireplace wall.
And don't forget that you can add lights to any other Christmas garlands too. Use them for garland on your staircase banister or over a doorway.
Use Flameless Candles for Indoor Christmas Lights
Flameless candles are one of the best inventions ever if you want a classic look of warm candlelight without the risk of burning an actual candle. If you have curious little ones around the house, these may be a good choice for you. These black flameless candles look authentic and still provide warm natural light for a cozy atmosphere.
These flameless candles can be put to good use in any room. Add them onto a shelf, a mantel or a tabletop. My personal preference is to pair these indoor Christmas lights together with another piece of decor for balance. The soft light is ideal for a small space that needs to be accented.
Modern Table Lamp
This small tabletop lamp is another option that is great for highlighting visual points with a soft light. It comes with a rechargeable battery lamp so you can get a lot of use out of it.
I love the warm light that illuminates specific decorations. This is a great alternative to having to install a permanent light fixture. This lamp looks fabulous on my coffee table. It highlights my winter decor and tree figurines in my family room.
Decorating with indoor Christmas lights can be a fun and easy way to get into the holiday spirit. From picking out the right lights to arranging them in creative and aesthetically pleasing ways, these lights can be used to create a special atmosphere and enhance any holiday celebrations.
Moreover, with all the different types of indoor Christmas lights available on the market, you can find plenty of options that cater to your taste, budget, and needs. So, go ahead and get creative in finding the perfect lighting options for your home this holiday season.
