Christmas Dining Room

Transform your dining table this holiday season with classy dining room Christmas decor.

'Tis the season to deck the halls with boughs of holly, but what about your dining space? With Christmas just around the corner, it's time to get creative and bring the holiday decor to your dining room. Whether you're hosting a festive dinner party or simply want to elevate your everyday meals, adding Christmas dining room decor ideas is the perfect way to make the season merrier.

In this article, we'll explore all the ways you can transform your dining area into a festive wonderland, from elegant centerpieces to charming place settings. Let your dining room take center stage this Christmas season.

Dining Room Christmas Decor Ideas

I found this lovely dining room table from Downeast Home shortly after we moved into our modern cottage farmhouse. I love the grey bottom and the oak top. Plus, the table leafs pull out on each side to accommodate a few more people. The only thing I needed was a Christmas overhaul in this space for the holidays!

Table Centerpieces

First off, let's discuss what to put on your dinner table. There are many different ways you can decorate for the winter holidays. Choose a traditional Christmas color palette or go with something more neutral. Several years back I used red and gold for our color scheme. But since then, I have gone more neutral for our Christmas table decorations. However, one thing I always include is faux or fresh greenery in the center.

For this table centerpiece, I opted to use winter greenery, small gold buffed ornaments I made, and DIY mini wooden candlestick house holders. Here is another option for DIY velvet ornaments that add elegance. This is an easy arrangement that can also be used for mantel decor.

Here is another neutral option for a festive centerpiece. Again, instead of a traditional table runner I opted for fresh greens. I wove these around mini fire pits and added some tree figurines and candles. You could also add a few fairy lights if you don't want to use candles. A light theme is an easy option for decorating. You can see more Christmas light designs here.

For my simple red and green theme, I used two real touch garlands from Afloral. For the middle centerpiece I placed four candle sticks and a cute gold star in the center.

Hanging Decor

Don't forget about hanging decorations for your dining room Christmas decor. It's a great way to create a focal point upwards and give the illusion of height. For this space, I simply added boughs of greenery to our black chandelier. Make sure that if you go this route, you have a light fixture that doesn't get too hot.

Neutral dining room Christmas table

You can see that I love the greenery theme. Here we added a small bouquet of mistletoe. But you can also use things like red berries and greens or a little wreath with velvet ribbon.

Flooring Accents for Christmas Dining Room

Just like decor that covers height, you don't want to neglect your floor space. Choose a Christmas themed rug or pick something neutral to encase your table area.

I searched and searched for a rug to go under my table. When I found this one from Safavieh I snatched it up. The dark border ties in with the dark accents in my home. But the white and beige variations in it definitely help to hide stains, which is always a PLUS with kids and pets.

Dining Room Christmas Decor Textiles

Adding Christmas textiles to your dining display can make all the difference in terms of comfort and cozy appearance.

Signs

First, I added my favorite mistletoe sign from Currently Chic. You can never go wrong with wall art, and this is no exception. I love the bright pop of red that ties in perfectly with this holiday table.

Red Throw

To tie in the rest of the decor with my bold red sign, I added a red throw to this woven leather bench. The pop of red contrasts nicely with this neutral furniture. The leather makes this bench easy to keep clean, but it also adds another fun texture.

Toss Pillows

To bring in more tone and texture, these beautiful dining chairs from Safavieh fit the bill. Wicker chairs are a perfect option for adding texture to your space. And the best part is adding these beautiful two red pillows to bring in the Christmas decorating. I love the warm and cool tones in the traditional color scheme that help to pull the whole look together.

Place Settings

To complete your Christmas tablescape, it's important to finish the look with stylish table settings. It doesn't have to be anything over the top to achieve desired elegance.

For this table setting I chose a larger dark plate and layered it with a smaller white plate. In the center of the plate I used black linen napkins folded inside some greenery. Gold flatware on either side completes the look.
