Laundry Room Inspiration
Originally, our home building plans included one large laundry room space in the mudroom. We opted to have this changed! My remodelled farmhouse style home has the laundry room in my mudroom, and I HATE it. Staying on top of laundry is not my strong suit.
With this laundry room layout we lack enough room because the only way out to the garage is through this area. That means that when it is laundry day, all of the dirty clothes and laundry baskets block the floor space and ability to manuever in and out.
I also strongly dislike that our laundry room space is on a different floor from the bedrooms. We haul all of our laundry across the house, wash it and then haul it back to put it away.
For our new home, we chose to have two smaller laundry rooms instead of one larger. There is one by the master bedroom and bath and one upstairs by all the kids' rooms. Folding clothes is much easier when your washing machine is only a few steps away from your closet.
Small Laundry Room Designs
Neutral Wallpaper
Here is the kids' tiny laundry room. This space is a bit smaller, but it does the job and my kids don't need a ton of extra space to wash their clothes. Plus, less area to clean up, right? And it is so nice to have it close to the bedrooms.
Just because a space is small doesn't mean it can't be pretty. For this wall I incorporated some open shelving and floral wallpaper for a neutral color palette. See the details on how I updated this space here.
Farmhouse Vibes
This space has a fun farmhouse coastal vibe that is both relaxing and fun with bright colors. And if you don't want boring white walls, this shiplap wall accent is a great way to add decorative elements to your wall space. You can also opt for an easy wainscoting look or this less costly alternative to mimic traditional shiplap.
The stacked washer and dryer help to free up space for the utility sink. If your kids are tall enough to reach the machines, this is a great option for consolidating space. It's amazing how much you can fit into a compact laundry room like this one.
Open Shelves
Originally I was going to stack the upstairs washer and dryer, but decided to leave them side by side like these. A front-loading washer is easier for kids.
I especially love these floating wood shelves and matching wood countertop. Open shelves provide extra storage along those laundry room walls. This is the perfect place for storing items like laundry detergent, dryer sheets and other stain removers. More ideas for styling shelves here.
And I can't resist mentioning the adorable penny tiles on the floor. What a stylish design!
White Color Scheme
This all white color scheme stands out and I love it. The white subway tile and cabinetry make the laundry room look so clean. With a small space like this, the neutral paint color makes the room feel much larger than it is.
Our master laundry will be about this size. We currently have our washer and drying stacked and have loved it. To save space in this laundry room we are going to to stack them again. And I will have cabinets as well as a counter top.

Barn Door
A sliding barn door is a genius idea for space saving. If your laundry room is already limited on storage space, why not change out your doors to free up more wall space.
I also like the idea of having a barn door to break the monotony of doors up a little bit and add a fun element. We ended up creating our own DIY sliding barn door for entrance into our luxury bathroom.

Colored Cabinets
Let's talk finishes. The main part of my house will be neutral so I can easily change out my decor based on mood or holidays of the month. But I wanted to do something fun in the laundry rooms. These colored cabinets are the perfect spot for adding character.
Upper cabinets and lower cabinets provide just enough storage for all of the laundry supplies.
Patterned Tile
If light colors are not your preference, this black accented space is so attractive. And I love the patterned floor tile in black and white. What a fun colored design to brighten up your flooring space. We ended up utilizing some fun tile flooring designs in our own space.
The wood counter space also provides just enough surface area for storage and holding supplies. The natural wood elements look beautiful with the dark color palette.
Laundry doesn't have to be a dreaded chore. With these small laundry room design ideas, you can turn your laundry room into an efficient, inviting space that puts the fun back into laundry day.
