Why Choose Wallpaper?
Wallpaper, or no wallpaper? That is the question!
Using wallpaper is not for everybody. I can guarantee there will always be a few die-hard wallpaper haters in every bunch. That era of matching wallpaper to fabric curtains was very memorable and not in a good way. However, I have grown to love incorporating wallpaper in my design options because of its versatility. Let's take a look at all the highlights of utilizing these bold designs in your interior.
- Wallpaper is a great way to implement a bold pattern
- Easy removal and application if done correctly
- Very minimal mess, unlike with paint
- Perfect way to accent a single wall or an entire room
- Can change the atmosphere of an entire space
- High quality wallpaper can hide some wall imperfections
- So many choices to make a style statement unique to you
- Durable and affordable
Small Powder Room Wallpaper Ideas
A small space like a bathroom, pantry or laundry room is a great place for adding a wallpaper pattern. You can make a huge impact in a small room for very little cost. I especially love to go with a bold wallpaper pattern in my powder rooms for a modern look.
And a big perk of newer and modern wallpaper is the application. I love the new stick wallpaper for its ease and lack of mess. But I have also used prepasted multiple times and it is also a good choice.
Most Common Types of Application
- Prepasted - comes ready with a coating that activates when wet
- Peel and Stick
- Traditional paste wallpaper - add paste to wall or paper before install
Let's take a look at these bathroom wallpaper ideas to help you find the perfect powder room wallpaper for your home.
Master Powder Room - Prepasted Wallpaper
Since I picked a neutral color scheme for our new home, I wanted to include some bold prints to brighten up the walls. The little powder room in our bathroom was the perfect place to use wallpaper.
This is a repeating pattern prepasted wallpaper. A repeating pattern helps the room to feel spacious and flowing, but only if it is hung correctly.
When installing a repeating pattern, you must get all panels to line up precisely.
When working with a pattern, whether it is a subtle pattern or bold, lay out two pieces at a time so the pattern aligns.
Start your installation somewhere that will have an easy end piece. I chose next to the door molding, so after installing around the room I only have to match up a small piece above the door.
Most of this toilet room is solid wall besides the window, so it made for a pretty quick installation.
This black and white wallpaper turned out absolutely stunning for this tiny powder room! I love pulling in a bit of nature through my wallpaper selection. Floral and nature designs are great neutral picks because it isn't overwhelming, but still adds character. A continuous pattern that is lined up correctly definitely makes this small square footage appear larger.

Hall Powder Room - Wallpaper Mural Peel and Stick
Another fun way to spice up a powder room is with a large scale wallpaper mural. We also used a mural wallpaper in my daughter's room and it turned out fabulous, so I knew this design style would have a striking look in this space too. Murals are a fun modern design that act as a piece of artwork on the entire wall.
This wallpaper is peel and stick with a linen texture. When you use wallpaper with texture it adds dimension and makes the space feel larger. So this is ideal for a tiny bathroom like this one. Plus, peel and stick is some of the best removable wallpaper there is, making it a great choice for easy clean up.
You can also see that the black, white and gray pattern ties in quite well with the white background and powder room decor. I threw in a few neutral accents onto the open shelves with a smidge of greenery for a pop of color. Get more ideas for styling open shelves in the bathroom here.
I also love to use nature-inspired wallpaper because it looks more fluid and natural in the space.
Small Girl Bath - Bold Peel and Stick
We opted to go with a bold pattern and bright colors for our next small powder room. This style was the perfect choice to use in my daughter's small midcentury-boho powder room. It pairs amazing with her midcentury bedroom.
Though this citrus wallpaper is not a repeat pattern, you do overlap it slightly during installation so that everything flows together and there is no disruption in your focal point. This eye-catching wallpaper will definitely draw attention with its large scale designs.
Don't be afraid to go big and bold in a small space. It's a common misconception that small patterns are the only way to go in limited room size. Large patterns can actually make the room feel incredibly spacious when they are correctly aligned in placement, as well as drawing your eye to the full height of the room instead of zooming in on one specific focal point.

Boy Bath - Wallpaper Copycat DIY
Another small powder room tip is to incorporate some kind of fun pattern. There are a lot of fun modern designs and geometric patterns if you prefer that style. However, this perfect wallpaper design isn't actually wallpaper at all! This is our painted DIY sponge wall or wallpaper copycat. I love it when I can imitate the same modern wallpaper design, but for significantly less cost in this case.
See how you can easily pull off a similar look with this easy tutorial, or get a little adventurous and try a new design. And the best part is that these design patterns do not require perfection to look great, because that is the style.
