Ideas for Bathroom Mirror and Lighting
Modern Bold and Gold
For this modern bohemian style bathroom, we opted to go bright and bold. When your vanity area doesn't have a window like this single vanity, it's important to make sure the space can still get enough bright light to function as needed.
Mirrors and bathroom light fixtures can be a beautiful element of decor for the whole room. I chose an arched mirror with a Boho modern look and gold trim to hang above the vanity area. For small bathrooms, you'll want a mirror that is proportioned correctly and ideally is wider than the sink.
The golden detail is beautiful and pairs nicely with the gold wall sconces on either side of the vanity mirror. These wall lights point upwards, which helps to create ample illumination as the light bounces off the white tile and brightens the whole space.
Decorative Farmhouse
Our remodelled farmhouse bathroom is unique for its combination of rustic charm and modern elements. For this double vanity, I chose a large rectangular mirror that I bought off the classifieds and then painted it a lighter color to bring out the detailed vintage flair of the mirror frame. A large mirror is a great option for covering the length of both sinks and for making a small bathroom seem bigger than it is.
This bathroom has a window so it helps to provide more natural light. Because of that, we installed a vanity light fixture above the mirror, directing the accent lighting to shine just above the sinks for optimal mirror usage. I chose a traditional farmhouse fixture to compliment the style of the bathroom.
Classic Black for Bathroom Mirror and Lighting
Round wall mirrors are definitely making a comeback in home decor. This black and round mirror is a beautiful classic look that is ideal for very limited wall space like this powder room.
Above the framed mirror, we hung bathroom vanity lights with a modern flair. The transparent, glass pendants provide the perfect amount of ambient lighting. Because this is a small powder room and not a primary bathroom, this space is an ideal choice for lighting with a soft glow.
Modern Black to Gold Fixtures
When we built our new home, all of the walls were white in our master bathroom. Because of that, I opted for a contemporary design of a black framed mirror. This modern minimalism of a simple black frame really pops against the white wall.
And because this bathroom has plenty of light coming in through large windows, the best option for bathroom mirror lighting was a simple sconce in black and gold on both sides of the mirror.
However, once I painted the wall charcoal it felt like the lights and mirror were not as much of a focal feature. So to capitalize on the focal points of these decorations, I spray painted both the rectangular frame and the light fixtures in a gold hue to match the other bathroom hardware.
Now this feature wall is extra stunning and offers the best lighting, combined with the recessed lighting and natural light, for our luxury master bathroom.
Industrial Design for Bathroom Mirror and Lighting
For my son's black and white themed bathroom, we opted for more of an industrial vibe in his decor and furnishings. This room showcases a black industrial mirror, emphasizing a sense of masculinity and modernism with a deep frame and smooth lines.
Accent lights above the mirror are transparent and modern, providing ample light to this bathroom space. The fun wall treatment is an extra design feature that really makes this room stand out.
Modern Bubble Design
If you really love a contemporary vibe to your decorating, take note of this popular choice of fixtures for my daughter's modern neutral bathroom.
The modern bubble mirror is an excellent choice for embracing a contemporary style that is a little bit different. I love the bright white frame and the texturing of the bubble pattern that makes the mirror a fun centerpiece. A simple linen sconce light is a neutral feature that blends well into the overall design and allows the mirror and other decorative pieces to take center stage.
Choosing a Mirror
Mirror Shapes
Consider the style and geometric shaping of the other furniture in your space. If you are using primarily straight lines, a round mirror is a great way to bring balance.
- Arched - More decorative, draws the eye upward elongating the space
- Circular - Nice for small bathrooms because the space feels bigger
- Rectangular - Versatile for any bathroom style, easy to use for a high wall
Style
- Framed or unframed - and consider the material of frame also
- Wide frame or thin - thin frames tend to look more modern, while thick frames are typically more traditional
- Ornate or simple
A mirror should be sized big enough so it is wider than the sink. You want to be able to see your whole head and neck in it. When in doubt, go for a larger mirror.
Lighting Options
There are many lighting styles to consider when it comes to your bathroom fixtures. Think about how much light you need and if you want the light directed onto your person or a general atmosphere of a bright space. Lights can also be placed on the sides to eliminate specific shadowing on the face.
- Hanging pendant lights
- Wall-mounted sconces on both sides of your mirror
- Vanity light bar above the mirror - lights can be face upwards or downwards depending on where you want your light focus to be
- Recessed lighting is often used in combination with accent lighting
Modern Bathroom Mirror and Lighting
Bathroom mirror and lighting designs may seem like minor details in our daily routines, but they play a crucial role in our overall appearance and home atmosphere. From the importance of proper lighting for makeup application to the psychological effects of a well-lit bathroom, it's clear that these elements should not be overlooked.
As we've explored, the key to creating a perfect bathroom mirror and lighting setup lies in understanding your own needs and preferences, as well as considering practical and aesthetic factors. So the next time you step into your bathroom, take a moment to reflect on how you can improve this essential space.
