Let’s rewind here for a second! Here is my pantry before, those bi-fold doors drove me crazy for 6 years. the panels/doors are different sizes and the door that is missing we fixed about 5 different times until it got to the point that we couldn’t fix them anymore. Instead …..
I ripped them all off!
and the rest was history!!
I always hated that these 2 closets were separate. After I made sure this was not load bearing I gladly knocked it down!
Yes, demo is very messy but oh so fun!!
HIP HIP HOORAY no more bifold or strange walls!!!!
The original plan was to tear everything down…including the wall that separated the 2 closets and create one big closet and add sliding barn doors to hit the mess. Once we got everything torn down we liked how removing the closet opened everything up! Change of plans…. Our kitchen is an addition so come to find out the far pantry used to be where the fridge was. Once I tore everything out we found electricity and water!! I had a few more outlets added and I had it wired for lighting. We plan to add an ice maker where the fridge used to be and a mini fridge on the other side to create a drink station! Here is the little sketch. The far left side is going to a desk with our computer
There was a lot of damage to the walls so instead of trying to patch them and mud and tape we decided to create a faux shiplap instead. (you can see my faux shiplap tutorial here)
I taped everything off and then used my Graco Spray gun to first prime the wall.
You can see it doesn’t look pretty after one coat. But don’t worry it slowly gets better!
After the primer dried it was time for paint! I used 2 coats of Benjamin Moore’s Halo, it is a nice grayish white.
And here is what is looks like today! I had the cabinets built…they are sitting in my garage just waiting for me to put them all together and install them…I just need a few more hours in my day.
I created this weathered pine frame with chicken wire in it to sit behind our computer and hold our messages. (full tutorial here)
I framed the area out with reclaimed pine my grandpa found for me. I love the natural weathered look. I also used the same wood to build the desk.
And this reclaimed post is the perfect leg for the desk.
Luckily we found some left over pine planks from when our floor was installed to patch were the wall used to be, now I just have to stain it. I hope to have a complete reveal of our pantry sooner rather then later
