Looking to get those grout lines sparkling? Learn to use steam to clean floor tile grout, especially when it comes to a marble tile floor.
When it comes to tackling the build-up of grungy grout between bathroom or kitchen floor tiles, cleaning with steam is one of the most effective solutions. Steam cleansers blast away dirt, grease, and mildew quickly and easily. This allows homeowners to keep their floors looking sparkling clean and like new, especially with marble tile grout.
In this article, we will show you how hot steam cleaning can help you keep your tiled floors in pristine condition by discussing the basics of steam cleaners, the advantages of using them, and the techniques you should use for a successful clean grout. With the right tool and knowledge, cleaning tile grout with steam can be incredibly easy and give you the best results.
Why Steam Clean Tile Flooring?
- Scrub brushes can scratch the tile surface if you have marble
- A traditional mop and even a steam mop can sometimes give off excess moisture, damaging materials underneath or nearby
- A steamer can get into a hard to reach small area instead of a mop because of the small hose and brush attachments
- Avoid excessive elbow grease cleaning on your hands and knees with a grout brush
- Steam cleaning process is super cost effective and efficient, especially using the right steam cleaner
- Eliminates the need for harsh chemicals or cleaning products on your flooring and walls
- High temperatures do a better job at removing soap scum and stubborn stains
Cleaning Marble Tile Grout
Use a steamer like this Bissell Steamshot Deluxe to clean your tile floors. Steam cleaning is softer on your marble tile floor than other cleaning agents. It's an easy way to maintain proper care of your flooring. See the video tutorial below as I clean the marble floor tile in my master bathroom.
Step-by-Step Guide to Steam Clean Floor Tile Grout
Use the following steps as your guide to the easiest cleaning method ever. It's a simple process to clean the entire floor and you only need a few supplies. No acidic solutions or household cleaner needed!
For this grout cleaning tutorial, you will need:
- Bissell Steamshot Deluxe handheld steam cleaner
- Tap water - make sure it is clean water
- Clean soft cloth to wipe excess dirt off of the surface of the tile
Fill the Steamer
One of my favorite things about this grout steam cleaner is that for such a simple device, it can do a whole lot in an eco-friendly way. Plus, the affordability factor doesn't hurt either.
First step, you will need to fill the water tank before using your steam cleaner. This Bissell machine comes with a measuring cup for filling your tank accurately. You also don't need anything fancy like distilled water or white vinegar. Simple tap water will suffice!
Remove the cap on top to fill the tank. It does have a safety measure so make sure you follow manufacturer's instructions and push it down before twisting it off. Add 6.6 ounces of water using the measuring cup. Screw the top of the lid on and then push it down so that the safety lock is in place.
Getting Ready for Use
Once plugged in, the steamer will heat up automatically in about a minute. Put on your chosen attachment as it is heating. I am using the longer rectangular brush on my marble grout lines. Be careful when using this the first time because it blows out a ton of hot steam and steam burns hurt! As a general rule, make sure you do not put your hand or fingers in the line of steam when cleaning tiles.
You'll know when it is ready to use because the pressure will have built up and a steady stream of steam will come out. There is a lot of force behind that steam! Activate and test the steam to see if it is ready by pressing down on the small gray lever by the handle.
Clean Floor Tile Grout
Make sure you have the right attachment on your steam nozzle before you begin. Then, take your steamer and start cleaning the stained grout lines in between your bathroom tiles. There are different ways to clean, but I like to move the steamer in a back and forth motion on the dirty grout. Because of the high pressure and excess water, try not to leave it on one spot too long regardless of what type of flooring you have.
You'll start to notice the color of your grout change, thereby revealing your once beautiful tile with its original color. As you steam the grout surfaces in small sections, the easiest way I've found to cut down on the mess is to take a clean cloth and wipe up the dirty water as you go.
What I Like About the Bissell Steamer
