Entryway Christmas Decorating Ideas for the Holidays
In the first place, it's important to create a space of comfort and warmth when visitors walk in your front door. Your guests want to feel at home when they visit. And when your front entry is welcoming and cozy, that's a guarantee for success.
Display Holiday Signs or Pictures
One of my favorite ways to style my front entry is to choose a large Chrismas sign or artwork to display on my DIY wooden console table. It creates a big and bold focal point that can't be missed. Plus, it always helps to have a statement piece to focus a holiday theme around for this space.
I love my North Pole Christmas art with its classy red and white color scheme. There is something quite inspiring about this traditional color palette that brings a joyful mood to the room. I paired it with a black chalkboard sign behind so as to not overwhelm the space entirely.
And as a bonus - when you use large artwork like this, you don't need to add other items to take up space because this piece is plenty big enough. You'll save extra money in the long run by investing in a large piece and avoiding a lot of smaller decor purchases.
Bring in Nature for Entryway Christmas Decorating
It wouldn't be a Christmas winterscape without bringing in a little bit of nature. Showcasing greenery that goes along with your holiday tree is one of the best options for creating that cozy atmosphere. And because I always have a plethora of trees, I always make sure to include a few on my front porch and in my entry. See more tips here for adding a tree to your front exterior.
Depending on the size of your entryway, start by adding in a few mini Christmas trees. These do not take up a ton of space. You will also have more flexibility to maneuver them into the desired spaces. You can always add a larger tree down the road if you want more greenery. And make sure to utilize an assortment of different sizes and textures for fluidity.
If utilizing trees is not your thing, how about some green stems or branches? Include a few evergreen branches in a vase, as well as these beautiful snow covered branches and lovely lit twigs. You can also add some lush evergreen garlands to your table top. Throw in a few frost covered pine cones for additional winter accessories.
Don't Forget Wall Decor
When decorating your table top, do not forget to include wall decor! It's very important to add Christmas decorations that can elongate your space. This makes the entryway appear larger than it is. And for most people, entry ways are generally small spaces. This is why it is so important to pick decor that will create height and dimension.
To elongate this space, I propped up a ladder behind my side table and hung a large wreath on one of the rungs. This easily pulls visual focus upwards. Another option is to hang a wall shelf, like below. You can add all kinds of decor and figurines when you install a shelf on your wall.
Entry Christmas Decor Using Throws and Pillows
Really wanting to ramp up your cozy factor? Throw blankets and toss pillows is the answer! These items are not just for your living or family room. You can style throw blankets and pillows easily in your entryway too.
Include a basket or two on the sides of your table or underneath if there is space. Style your pillows and throws in the baskets so they are partially hanging out and visible. This is a great way to bring in color and also make a space feel all of the cozy vibes.

Hang Stockings
You don't always have to pick a sign or picture for your walls. Why not hang stockings on display? This is a super fun way to put those stockings to use before Christmas Eve.
I filled mine with some natural accents like pine cones and greenery, plus a few red berries for some color. What I love about this option is that you are repurposing decor you already have, changing up your traditional decorating and saving some additional cost in the process.
Other great options to hang up for your entryway Christmas decorations:
- Mistletoe
- Christmas bells
- Wreaths
- Christmas star
- Advent calendar
- Hanging snowflakes
- DIY holiday art
Include Neutrals in Entryway Christmas Decorating
As much as I love a traditional holiday color palette, I always make sure to include a few neutrals for a base. This includes various shades of browns, taupes, blacks and whites. Using neutrals in your Christmas decorating will allow you to balance your decor space without being too overwhelming in color for the viewer.
Classic Christmas colors are very popular when it comes to decorating your home. But in the past few years I have incorporated more neutrals within my decorating so that adding holiday decor isn't such a big task. Neutrals are easier to use as a base for all home decor.
Incorporate Stylish Figurines
Because Christmas decor can get overwhelming, I like to incorporate just a few stylish figurines that won't cause a lot of drama in this visual space. There is nothing worse than cluttering your shelves or tabletops with tons of things. It doesn't look good and is incredibly overwhelming. Take a minimalistic approach when it comes to your entryway Christmas decorating.
Pick classy figurines that are neutral instead of super gaudy or vibrant. This helps to reuse them year after year in other spaces of your home because they go with more.
I love this entry space in our old farmhouse style home. I simply styled some mini trees and a small figurine on the tabletop. It ties in well with the rustic farmhouse decor and does not overwhelm the eye.
Entryway Christmas decorating is a festive and exciting way to kick off the holiday season. It’s an easy and affordable way to add a bit of holiday cheer to your home, and can be customized to fit anyone’s style. From keeping it simple and classic with wreaths and garlands, to making a bold statement with an eye-catching doorway display, there’s something for everyone. So don your Santa hats, take a deep breath of pine-scented air, and embrace the holiday spirit with some creative entryway Christmas decorating.
Happy Decorating!
