How to Determine the Best Rug Size Under a King Bed
Measuring Tips for Your King Bed
When it comes to finding the perfect rug for your king-sized bed, accurate measurements are key. So first step - pull out that measuring tape. To ensure that your rug fits just right on the side of the bed as well as the foot of the bed, start by measuring the width and length of your entire bed. This includes any nightstands or other furniture that the rug will need to accommodate. By taking precise measurements, you'll be able to determine the best rug size that will anchor your bed and create a cohesive look in your bedroom.
Determining the Right Size Rug
Once you have your measurements in hand, it's time to determine the right rug size for your king bed. Consider the scale of your bedroom and the overall aesthetic you want to achieve. A rug that is too small will make the room feel disjointed, while a rug that is too large can overwhelm the space. Taking into account the dimensions of your bed and the layout of your room, select a rug size that complements and enhances the look of your bedroom.
This rug is a 10' x 15'. Because we have a large bedroom, there is enough space to fit this large rug without overtaking the bed. The size of your room matters! You probably would not want this rug size for a queen bed because the size of the bed would be too small.
Bedroom Rug Placement Ideas
For large bedrooms, there are various placement ideas to consider when positioning a rug under a king bed. One option is to place a large area rug centered under the bed, extending out on all sides to create a cohesive look. I did this in our farmhouse bedroom in our remodeled home with an 8'x10' rug.
How you put your rug under you bed can change the look. You can put it higher up to the nightstands so there is more rug showing on the sides of the bed. Or you can have more revealed at the end of the bed to accommodate a bench. This works in a larger room but can be difficult in small bedrooms depending on the size of the rug.
This 8'x10' rug under our king is slightly smaller. I opted to have more wood floor space and move the rug closer to the foot of the bed, focusing on the bench at the end. This makes the space feel larger by creates a focal point with open rug space at the foot of the bed.
Another idea is to position runner rugs on both sides of the bed, adding symmetry and a touch of style. Ultimately, the placement of the rug in a large bedroom should enhance the overall design and flow of the space, creating a comfortable and visually appealing environment. Combining these placement options with the right rug size will help you achieve the perfect balance in the entire room.
Choosing a Rug that Fits the Sides of Your Bed
When it comes to choosing a rug that fits the sides of your king bed, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind. The rug's design should ideally extend at least 18-24 inches on either side of the bed to create a sense of balance and proportion in the room size. This not only visually anchors the bed but also provides a soft and cozy surface for your feet to land on when getting in and out of bed.
In terms of shape, a rectangular rug is typically the best option for fitting the sides of a king bed size. This shape complements the linear design of the bed frame and helps to define the sleeping area within the larger space of the room. If you prefer a more unique look, consider layering multiple smaller rugs on each side of the bed for added texture and visual interest. A round rug is harder to fit with a large bed.
Ultimately, the goal is to choose a rug that not only fits the sides of your standard king bed but also enhances the overall aesthetic of your bedroom. By carefully selecting the size, shape, and style of the rug, you can create a harmonious and inviting space that you'll love spending time in.
This rectangular rug is also an 8'x10' and provides plenty of space on either side of the bed for coverage, while also having enough space at the foot of the bed. An 8'x10' is an excellent size if you don't care to bring the rug all the way up to your bedside tables. However, a 6'x9' rug may be too small and is better suited to a queen-sized bed.
