4 Tips for Fall Living Room Decor Ideas
Incorporate Warm Textures
To enhance the cozy atmosphere of your living room for this time of year, an easy way is to incorporate warm textures that exude comfort. By adding elements like plush throw blankets, soft rugs, and cozy throw pillows, you can create a space that invites relaxation and warmth. These textures not only provide physical comfort but also contribute to the overall visual appeal. Make your living room cozy by adding depth and dimension to the space.
In addition to using throws and pillows with soft textures, one of my favorite ways to add warmth is using wicker baskets. Again, objects with dimension and texture! I love to place these on my coffee table, or to put on my open shelves for added storage. Using warm colored autumn hues like browns and reds is also an option for easy fall decorations. I opted for deep burgundy candles with a smooth texture as part of this fall color scheme.
Embrace the tactile experience of fall by incorporating these warm textures throughout your living room, setting the stage for a truly inviting and cozy environment that reflects the essence of the season.
Add Seasonal Throw Pillows
Tip number two is to add fall touches with toss pillows. We briefly touched on these above, but accent pillows are so central to decorating that they deserve their own bullet point. Got an empty space on a couch or chair? Add a pillow. Need to incorporate more color or patterns in your room? That's right, add a pillow.
As you continue to transform your living room into a fall wonderland, don't overlook the power of seasonal throw pillows. Adding pillows or even pillow covers in earthy tones and patterns can instantly elevate the cozy vibe of your space. But it also conveniently allows for easy updates when the seasons change. Pillows are one of the easiest ways to provide comfort and style in your seasonal decor.
For this autumn season, I opted to pull in seasonal accents of brown, green and burgundy for the color palette. I included a cozy green and gray plaid pillow and paired it with a warm brown accent pillow with pictures of fall foliage. By mixing and matching different textures and designs like these, you can create a layered look that adds both style and comfort to your living room.
Decorate with Stems in Your Fall Living Room
The next step to create a cozy fall room is to decorate with fall stems. Fall stems are a simple yet effective way to bring the colors and textures of the harvest season into your living room. And the good news? There are so many fun options when it comes to these decorative items.
Consider arranging a mix of artificial or real stems in warm colors. Include easy ideas such as dried eucalyptus, berries, sunflowers, or branches with fall leaves in vases or pitchers. A fall wreath can be included in this and it doesn't have to be just for your front door. See the autumn wreath I made out of pampas grass and faux pumpkins here. Plus, I also hung it in my kitchen for a stylish focal point above the stove area.
You can see that I added fall branches into different containers in this space. If you don't have a vase, you can also use items like a milk pitcher, amber jar or a large mason jar. I included these florals in a variety of containers and tried to tie in natural fall colors wherever I could.
Natural elements create a welcoming atmosphere but also bring a sense of freshness and vitality to your space. Once you've added fall stems to your fall living room, tie the whole autumnal look together with seamlessly adding fall decor to your shelves and tables.
Fall Living Room Shelves and Tables
Now that you've added fall stems to your living room, it's time to really extend that same ambiance to your shelves and tables. Showcase your love for fall by incorporating small seasonal touches like decorative pumpkins, acorns, pine cones, or candles in warm hues. Utilize wooden trays or woven baskets to create cozy arrangements. Mix in elements like rustic lanterns or framed autumn artwork. Even a stack of fall-themed books can enhance the overall living room feel in your own home.
I absolutely love the open shelves I made for this built-in entertainment center. I also made sure to include a shiplap style wall behind them for additional style and texture. For these shelves I included fall accessories such as miniature pumpkins made from fabric, a picturesque fall scenic painting, fall florals and a large wicker basket.
Other creative ways to tie in DIY fall decorative items:
- Fall succulent pumpkins
- Fall floral display on your coffee table or side table
- DIY toilet paper pumpkins
- Sharpie pumpkins
- DIY terra cotta pumpkins
Carefully curate your shelves and tables with autumn-inspired decor. You'll transform your space into a cozy fall wonderland that welcomes the changing season with open arms. More tips on styling neutral floating shelves here.
