Repurposing furniture is one of my hobbies. Every time I haul something home, I start thinking what color to paint it and I consequently begin brainstorming what I can turn it into. So, who would guess this is an old door turned shelf!
What you will need:
- An old door – solid wood
- Skill saw
- Vintage knob or hooks
- Wood appliqué, if desired
- Crown molding
- Paint
- Wood fill
DIY Door Turned Shelf
Step 1: Make sure your door is solid wood, otherwise this won’t work.
Step 2: In addition, it will be easiest to use a door that already has sectioned panels. In addition, you will want to use a skill saw to cut each of the panels apart, like this one, or cut into desired shelf size for your door turned shelf.
Step 3: Once your sections are all cut apart, nail crown molding to the top and a piece of wood on top of the crown molding. Then, add a piece on the bottom to finish off.
Step 4: Once it is all put together, use putty to fill the nail holes and caulk all the cracks.
Step 5: Sand your hanging shelf if needed, then paint! Once it is painted, (I used Valspar’s Peach Fuzz) you can add a wood appliqué if desired. Finally, I added this appliqué and vintage door knobs for hooks!
Happy DIY-ing!
