All About My Herringbone Floors

When looking at different styles for floors, it is hard to choose because there are so many great options. We have several different floor designs in our home. I had seen herringbone pattern tile on floors and wanted to try it, as long as it didn't clash with any wall tile. My mudroom and small bathroom space were the perfect place to try it out.

Type of Tile

Porcelain - this tile is ideal for high traffic areas, high water resistance, and stronger than ceramic tiles which is super helpful for a mudroom.

Color

I thought about a black herringbone floor tile, but ultimately went with something a little bit lighter to implement a natural stone look in my color palette. These herringbone tiles are from Daltile and the color is Iron Grey.

Size

The size of this porcelain tile is 6" wide x 24" long to make the pattern more dramatic.

Grout

I used Alabaster grout by Mopei for distinct lines in between floor tiles. However, we quickly learned that white grout in a mudroom can be tough to keep white, so it is also sealed to help keep it clean. After seeing this space get such heavy use, I easily changed the grout lines to a slightly darker color.

You can easily do this tile installation yourself and lay your own herringbone tile floor. The trickiest part will be laying the first tile and finding center as you start your flooring. I opted to hire this one out because of time constraints.

5 Reasons Herringbone Tile Floor is Trending

It Features Timeless Elegance

A herringbone floor adds a touch of timeless elegance to any room, creating a sense of luxury and sophistication. The intricate pattern and rich texture provide a sense of opulence that can elevate the overall aesthetic of the room.

Establishing this elegance is especially vital in a small space. Or more particularly, areas that may not bring an immediate sense of luxuriousness like a bathroom floor or laundry room.

Space-Expanding Illusion

Herringbone tile flooring also has the remarkable ability to create a space-expanding illusion in any room. The unique pattern of herringbone tiles draws the eye in a diagonal direction. This elongates the space and making it appear larger than it actually is. An optical illusion is perfect for a small room or narrow hallway, as it can give the impression of a more open and airy environment. Don't discount the ability to create the illusion of more space - it's an advantageous quality!

By utilizing this design choice, you can effortlessly transform your room into one that is inviting and spacious. This design element seamlessly transitions into the versatility of herringbone flooring, making it a must-have for any contemporary setting.

Versatile Design Element in Herringbone Floor Tile

Another key benefit of herringbone tile flooring is its versatility. Whether you prefer a modern, minimalist look or a classical design, porcelain herringbone tile can incorporate into your theme. Use the flooring to dress up your room with an elegant design, or dress it down with a classic appeal. This versatility allows for endless possibilities when it comes to adding herringbone tile flooring into your interior design projects.

With its ability to adapt to different styles and preferences, herringbone tile flooring is truly an interchangeable design element that can elevate any room. This adaptability also extends to different room choices, as well as design style. Use herringbone in your kitchen, laundry room or bathroom.

Creates Visual Interest and Focal Points

Don't you just love the unique design of the herringbone pattern? One of the most compelling aspects of herringbone tile flooring is its ability to create visual interest and focal points within a space. The unique geometric pattern naturally draws the eye and adds a dynamic element to any room.

By strategically placing this timeless design in key areas, such as entryways or on a feature wall, you can instantly create a captivating focal point that anchors the design scheme. This attention-grabbing quality of herringbone tile flooring makes it a popular choice for interior designers seeking to make a bold statement in their projects.

And as mentioned, it's an excellent choice for flooring, as well as kitchen backsplash or as part of bathroom designs. The adaptability of herringbone tile flooring transitions into its practical and durable qualities for both residential and commercial spaces.

Herringbone Floor Tile is a Practical Choice

In addition to its visually appealing qualities, herringbone is a practical and durable choice for interior design. The sturdy material and construction make it resistant to every day wear and tear. That is why herringbone tile is a good choice for high-traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways.

The herringbone tile in my mudroom and extending into my bathroom tiles has held up quite well. It has seen a lot of hard use, especially because it is the main entry point where we come in and out of the house every day, multiple times. What a great way to add a touch of luxury while maintaining durability.

With proper installation and maintenance, herringbone tile flooring can withstand the test of time and maintain its aesthetic appeal for years to come. Make sure you are taking care of your tile by cleaning and applying sealing coats onto grout when needed.

Herringbone Tile Flooring

Upgrade your home with herringbone tile flooring to experience the timeless elegance, space-expanding illusion, versatile design options, visual interest, and practical durability it offers. Make a statement in your living spaces and create a lasting impact with this popular interior design trend.

Happy Designing!
