Using Milk Paint to Paint our XOXO Cutout

Using Milk Paint to Paint our XOXO Cutout

DIY & Crafts

Our newest XOXO Cutout:

I don’t always decorate much for Valentine’s day, but I like to change my entry table out with fun seasonal decor.  My new handwritten XOXO cutout was the perfect finishing touch to this vignette.

Our 13″ long cutouts are a very versatile size.  They look cut in trays or on shelves and they also fit great on wreaths.  To attach them to a wreath I just use twine to tie them on so I can remove them if I want to down the road.  Don’t you love that blush pink color our XOXO is painted in?  I have good news…..

We are now carrying Sweet Pickin’s Milk paint so you can paint your cutouts!   Milk paint is awesome with our cutouts because it absorbs down into the MDF creating a very durable finish.  Plus, now you can pick a cutout, milk paint and a brush and have a fun craft delivered right to your front door.  I made a video so you can watch how I mix up the paint, tricks for getting a good finish and I also talk a little more in-depth about why I went with milk paint.

Now let’s talk a little about this cute vignette!  I try to keep my decor clean and minimal because nothing drives me more crazy than having what I like to call decor clutter.  Instead of having too much decor  I like to layer.  For example I layered my chicken wire frame with yarn pom poms, a felt heart garland and this darling wreath.  It adds so much dimension without being overwhelming and even better it is out of the way.

Filling a stacked tray is also a good way to add a little bit of color that is contained.  I filled a few jars with heart candies I found at the Dollar Store.  I used some greenery, flowers, wood beads and candles to fill in the bare spaces.  I love how my Handwritten XOXO cutout hangs over the edge of the tray too!   So simple!
