It is kind of funny how a design evolves. Usually, it starts with something that inspires you. For me it was this built-in by Chris Loves Julia. I love that it is different than standard built-ins. My wall is a little bit bigger than the wall above so when I saw these cute benches by Studio McGee on the side of this entertainment center, I added some to my wall.
This is the look I am really hoping to get. Usually built ins are not added until after everything is sheet rocked and painted. But as you can see from this picture, the walls and bottom of the shelves are sheet rocked for a nice smooth finish. (source unknown)
Other design aspects for Family Room inspiration:
This is a similar house plan to ours. Our posts in the family room will look a lot like this. View the plans here
As far as seating goes I really want to float my furniture like Life on Cedar Lane has done hers. I love the 2 couches and 2 chairs, it makes for a cozy yet elegant seating area.
We are pushing hard to move into our home at the end of May... fingers crossed it will work out.
