How to Create a Stunning Summer Table
Emphasize a Bright Color Scheme
When it comes to summer seasons, it's all about the bright and fun colors. A citrus fruits themed color palette is the perfect choice for summer tablescape ideas. I opted to include anything that would incorporate colors from fresh fruits like lemons, limes, grapefruits and oranges.
You can see here how I did something similar with my other summer table decor. But I also included a selection of pastels too for variety.
Create a Main Centerpiece for Summer Table Decor
After picking the tones in your bright color scheme, you'll want to start on creating a centerpiece for your dining room table.
Pick the Center Focus
First step, choose a focal point for the center of the table. Floral arrangements are a good option for this. Grab some gorgeous flowers with beautiful pops of color and arrange in your favorite vase.
For my centerpiece I used snap dragons and planted them in a metal bucket. They are the perfect combination of bright pinks and corals and I love how it adds height to the center. But if you would rather not put in fresh flowers, faux flowers can work just as easily. If you don't want to use a metal bucket, you can also grab mason jars, simple glass vases or even glass bottles.
Incorporate Natural Elements
Once your main focal point is complete, you'll want to extend your design for the length of the table. Although a table runner can be a good option for this, I suggest adding in more natural elements like lush greenery or branches to go with your summer theme.
I used two garlands and placed them around the outside of each side of the snap dragons then tied the garlands together. This makes it so the garlands can come together and flow down the table correctly. I then added faux stems of greenery into the garlands, using eucalyptus, mint, and baby's breath. Fill in bare spots if you can. I also used some of them to trail down the front of the table and out to the side.
Add Color into Summer Table Decor
When you are finished arranging your greenery, it's time to add in additional colors to your beautiful tablescape. I used faux peonies to bring in the orange hues to the garland and added fresh lemons for a punch of color. I also added in a few white flowers to really create a visual pop.
Simple Place Settings
When your centerpiece is bold and colorful like this one, it is best to create simple place settings to balance out all of the busy. First, I used textured round place mats in neutral colors. Then I added a dinner-sized plate, a salad plate and topped it off with a small bowl.
To blend in the decorative elements, I added a lemon to each of the bowls and a strand of greens and baby's breath along the border. This is a subtle way to blend in the beautiful backdrop, without taking away from the main centrepiece.
You can also add place cards, additional seasonal flowers across the plate, or cloth napkins in a fancy holder.
If you need additional fillers in your simple centerpiece that are not florals, consider any of these options:
- candle holders
- basket trays
- pillar candles
- small lanterns
