Create the perfect little mermaid birthday party with a fun food table and decorations to compliment your party theme.
Little kid birthday parties are the best to throw because there are so many fun ideas to choose from. From a monster mash to a ladybug smash, chances are you can find a themed birthday party your favorite little guests. Our birthday girl has a deep love for Princess Ariel. So it was only fitting that our red head little girl requested a mermaid theme for her birthday.
Mermaid Birthday Party Ideas
The best party ideas come with delicious desserts, decorations and fun activities to entertain.
Party Decor
Simplicity in decoration was key for this party since I spent more time on the food. My main focus was the create a sense of water on the table. I used a white table cloth as the base layer on the table, then placed a large blue sheet of mesh on top. This helped to create the look of the ocean on our table.
I also used food as the decor with all the little accessories as toppers on the dessert. You can also use tiered trays and dishes for decorative display.
Consider using these other ideas for your littler mermaid party supplies:
- Balloons or balloon garland
- Disposable plates and dishes that are the same color as your theme
- A mermaid backdrop for photos
- Jellyfish lanterns for an "Under the Sea" theme
- Ocean waves for table skirts
Party Food Ideas
The best place to start in creating a fabulous dessert table is to pick any foods that will coordinate with your chosen color palette. I opted to do a few different varieties of cakes and candies.
STARFISH CUPCAKES
These mini vanilla cupcakes are an easy way to implement more of a sea party theme. I used blue frosting with just a hint of cream cheese to make these adorable starfish toppers. White or chocolate pearls create a beautiful little sparkle of decor on top.
CHOCOLATE ARIEL CUPCAKES
These delicious chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting are a favorite! I found these Ariel toppers at the Dollar Tree to add onto the purple frosting. If you can't find an Ariel topper, you can also use other ocean items like decorative shells or Swedish fish candies.
Finger food is a great option for little mermaid party ideas. I also threw in a dish of blue Sixlet candies. Any kind of small munchies like this are a big hit with the kids. You can also use goldfish crackers if you want to cut down on the sugar.
CAKE POPS (aka Mermaid Wands)
Edible mermaid wands might be easier to munch on for some of the little ones. I made chocolate cake pops dipped in purple white chocolate frosting.
MERMAID CAKE
And a mermaid party wouldn't be complete without a mermaid birthday cake. This delicious ice cream cake is a great addition with Princess Ariel and her crown on top.
Ideas for Fun Party Activity
Don't forget some of these entertaining games and ideas for your mermaid birthday.
- Go fish in the treasure chest (like the carnival fishing pole game)
- Turn it into a pool party
- Decorate your own mermaid tails
- Make mermaid jewelry like seashell necklaces
- Mermaid face painting
- An obstacle course through the "ocean"
Any of these fun little mermaid party ideas are the perfect way to entertain your little guests for hours. You'll definitely be giving your own little mermaid a fun celebration to remember.
Happy Celebrating!
