DIY Halloween Porch Decor
Want to create spook-tacular fall porch this year? Make sure to take some of these front porch ideas and incorporate them into your outdoor space for a frightful fun Halloween night. A festive porch doesn't have to cost a lot either. DIY decor makes it more affordable to decorate your home in style. Plus, take a look at a these places to see what you can find for cheap:
- A dollar store
- Target dollar spot
- Michael's or another craft store - they will often heavily discount during the season or right after the holiday
Embellish the Front Entrance
First up on creating the best Halloween porch, design a front door entrance that will leave visitors wanting to come back. A great way to do this is by embellishing your front steps or front doors as much as you can, since that is the main focal point for your home.
Homemade Halloween Wreaths
When you have double front doors like ours, it is super fun to dress them up for the spooky season. Big fall wreaths are an easy way to add embellishment. Now if you want something that resembles more autumn floral decor, take a look here at this DIY fall wreath.
For my front door wreaths, I wanted large decor but also something that could be interchanged with other holidays. These DIY coffee filter wreaths allow me to do just that! These large white wreaths are hung on the front doors and then I easily swap out the ribbons for every holiday. Sticking with a black and white color scheme, I opted to group a selection of black ribbons in a bunch for each wreath. The black pops against the white background.
And the best part about these easy door decorations? These lovely items only required a few basic materials like coffee filters, hot glue and a wreath base.
Faux Pumpkins
Next up for our Halloween porch decorations are these awesome black paint pumpkins. Normally, a few orange pumpkins are just the thing to complete the space. However, the last few years black painted pumpkins have been my go to because of cost and being able to reuse. When needing to update decor, a can of spray paint can do wonders!
Last year I invested in several more plastic pumpkins and then used black spray paint and gave them a new look. I love the neutral coloring that blends in to my black and white theme. These pumpkins are fun to stack in bunches right next to the front door for a brilliant wow factor. Another option is to line them up along your front steps or front walk, like I did last year. Add some battery powered tea lights for night time and you have yourself some spooky jack-o-lanterns to light up your front porch.
DIY Ghosts
These cute DIY ghosts are an easy project that won't take up hardly any time to complete. If you have white fabric and a tomato cage hanging around, these are super easy to complete. Add string lights underneath to make the glow at night. These will fit right in for drawing attention to your front door.
Have a Showcase Stopper
When it comes to creating a fun center of attention on your front porch, you definitely want to have a showcase stopper as part of your Halloween decor. I don't want my front doors receiving all the praise and glory, so we created a spooky scene on the side of the porch.
Our full size skeleton basks in all his eery glory sitting on my DIY porch swing bench. I added extra embellishments with bats, faux spiders and a beautiful sign. You can also create a stylish focal point using the DIY homemade ghosts. Whatever you choose, make sure to include a main focal point to look at.
Hanging Decor
One of the best things to do with your decorations is to incorporate hanging decor so your eye spans from the floor to the porch ceiling. When you add elements that span a great vertical or horizontal length, your porch appears larger than it is.
To pull viewer focus upward, we hung witch hats from the covered porch with clear fishing line. The floating appearance of the witches hats brings a Harry Potter vibe that all the kids are sure to love. A few other fun options to hang might be bats, spiders or black crows.
Wall Accents for DIY Halloween Porch Decor
Wall accents are an easy and inexpensive way to add a spooky touch to your porch decor. Stencils and vinyl can be used to create classic Halloween silhouettes like black cats, bats, and witches. Likewise, specific lighting can do the same thing in creating spooky shapes to display in your wall space.
Add some spider webs and a giant spider for a more dramatic look. We have a couple on our porch! I hung a few webs in the top corners of my windows, along with the black netting fabric that is popular at this time of year. The bats are particularly fun because you can spread them out over quite a large space. Use painter's tape to apply bats without ruining the finish of your exterior paint. You can easily attach them to glass too.
New Additions for Halloween Porch Decorations
Even though it is ideal to reuse and recycle your seasonal decor every year, I try to include a couple new additions for variety and current trends. There is always something new and cute to add. This year I added a few new pieces to the current outdoor Halloween yard decorations.
DIY Ghosts
I mentioned these DIY creations above. Last year I made these ghosts with the purpose of using them for my interior. I wanted them to be actively moving in front of our window so our house appeared haunted! But this year I improved them and added a strand of lights to the inside to light up the front porch. These will be a fun addition for Halloween night.
Spooky Tree
I added the black tree for some additional dimension and height. The branches are empty on my porch, but adding ornaments or small critters would be a fun way to add some color.
DIY Halloween Porch Decor Door Mat
And last but not least, I added a new black and white door mat that is larger and takes up more floor space. This makes the entrance to our home feel so much grander with crisp lines and patterns. A new door mat can spruce up your patio by bringing in color and cleanliness.
