DIY Mister Line
Materials Needed
- Misting kits with mist line - I have this one
- Garden hose
- Command strip hooks - optional if you want to place it up higher
Setting Up Your Mister System
This specific mist line can come in multiple lengths. After measuring our pergola, I picked the 59 foot mister line. This length comes with 20 brass misting nozzles and a hose faucet adapter. The parts also come pre-assembled.
The first step is to locate your water source. You will need to be able to hook up your outdoor faucet to the hose adapter. When your hose is hooked up to your water source and to the misting line, then you can attach it to your structure. I used Command Strips to attach the line directly to our pergola. Turn on your hose and there your have a beautiful cooling mist!
Perks for Mist Line
- Use this on your back porch or hanging on your exterior structure if you want it higher up
- Easy to attach
- Can use for watering flowers with drip irrigation tubing
- Put it on a timer if desired
Maintenance Tips for DIY Mister Line
Ready to keep your oasis in top condition? Let's dive into some essential maintenance tips to ensure your mister system stays running smoothly. Regularly check for any leaks or clogs in the system to prevent malfunctions. Clean the nozzles periodically to remove any debris, or have a stash of replacement nozzle heads on hand to swap out. Additionally, be sure to drain the system before winter to prevent freezing and potential damage.
If you have hard water, consider installing a filter with your misting system. This will help to prevent clogs and other deteriorating that comes with hard water.
Portable DIY Mister Fan
This first option is a great one and one of my favorite for its ease of use. I absolutely love that it is portable. We have taken this contraption to several soccer games so we aren't dying of heat without air conditioning. A mister is the next best thing for your outdoor space.
To bring your DIY mister system to life, you'll need a few key materials.
Materials Needed
- Ryobi mister fan
- Garden hose - optional
- 5 gallon bucket
- Water
Setting Up Your Mister System
This fan mister comes with 2 attached hoses - one for connecting to a hose and another for directly pumping from a water source. To bring your DIY mister system to life, start by determining which method you want to use. If you opt to use your hose, you can connect it and not use the 5 gallon bucket, instead placing it on a flat surface. But the bucket is useful for both water methods.
Your other option is to fill your 5 gallon bucket with water and drop the pumping hose directly into it. This is where your mister will draw its water. This is a great option if you are not at home and want to bring your misting unit with you.
Once your water is connected, you can turn the mister on low or high, changing the water pressure . You can also adjust the fan speed on low or high so that you can have the optional choice to have a fan blowing in addition to the misting line. Want to just have the fan running without misting? You can do that too.
Mist Fan Perks
- Portable - bring it with you to outdoor activities
- Use it with fan or no fan
- Perfect for backyard patios or decks
- Move it around as you are gardening
- Use for outdoor parties
Maintenance
The maintenance on this system is pretty simple. Remember to bring it inside and store it in the garage or elsewhere when not in use so it doesn't get damaged by harsh winter weather. There is a lithium battery that powers everything. Also, clean the nozzle heads periodically so they don't get clogged.
Enjoying Your Cool DIY Mister System
Once your misting system is up and running, it's time to bask in the refreshing coolness of your DIY mister.
In a few simple steps, you can transform your patio into a cool oasis with a DIY mister system. Stay cool all summer long while enjoying the outdoors with this DIY project. Remember to follow the maintenance tips to ensure your oasis stays refreshing.
So lounge on a cozy chair, sip on a cold drink, and feel the subtle mist gently kiss your skin on a hot summer day. With your newly created DIY mister system, you can now host outdoor gatherings with friends and family, or simply unwind in solitude after a long day.
