Hanging Bats

How to hang bats on painted surfaces

I decorated my porch in 2 phases. First I started out with with the swing area. Bats are a great budget friendly way to make a big impact on a front porch. I wanted to add something fun to the bats this year.

My cricut is so handy for projects like this. I used it to cut out bats for a fun sign. I wanted it to feel like the bats where coming out of the sign! This is such an easy DIY outdoor Halloween decoration ideas

To make this sign I used ½" plywood and painted it white. Next, I framed it in with pine which I painted black. Then I cut out black bats out of vinyl and cardstock. I used the vinyl bats on the sign and the cardstock bats to put on the house.

Hanging bats tip: use blue painters tape to hang them. You can also buy plastic bats on Amazon here.

Other DIY Outdoor Halloween Decorations

  • Frankie, our 5 ft skeleton always has to make his debut for halloween. The swing was the perfect spot for him.
  • Don't forget fake webs I string these webs through my trees, my light fixtures and any other corner I can find.
  • Giant spiders add a creepy flair. I love to have them crawling up the wall or hanging off of a light fixture.

Floating Witch Hats

These hats are such a fun way to really add halloween to a space. I just used inexpensive witch hats, fishing line and sticking hooks. I spaced them at random heights along my porch. They are the cherry on top for my DIY outdoor halloween decorations.

Check out how I used a lot of the same Halloween decor but changed it up just a bit in this post!

Don't forget the Halloween costumes either. Every year our family dresses up as a theme. It has become one of our favorite traditions.
