Coral Pressed Back Chair

While tables are fabulous pieces of accent furniture to have in your house, do not underestimate the power of a chair! Chairs can be a great addition for decorating too,  including benches and ottomans. A unique chair can be used as a singular piece of decor, as well as for functional purposes making it quite ideal. When in doubt on selecting a piece of furniture, chairs are always a safe bet. Some of my favorite types of chairs are painted pressed back chairs. And this particular coral pressed back chair is absolutely one of my favorites.

Ordinarily, you might take a glance at this chair and think of it as outdated and ugly. But, you never know what kind of masterpiece may be hidden underneath. It's amazing what a little paint and glaze can do, right??

Coral Pressed Back Chair

  1. Lightly sand down chair where you will be adding paint. I love the look of paint and wood combined, so I ended up taping off all the back spindles before painting to let a little bit of wood remain.
  2. I sprayed the entire chair with Valspar's Peach Fuzz to get a soft, coral color. Another reason why I love chairs... they make great accent colors when you don't want to paint a whole room or even a wall.
  3. After it was sprayed, I used a brush to push glaze down into the engraved design to really make the details more emphasized.

I LOVE how this chair turned out!! The added glaze really makes the design and color pop! Yep, I'd sit in that.

Tinted oil wax is a good option if you are seeking a similar look. We have this available here.

Happy DIYing!!

Brooke

You did a great job -- I've not realized how lovely these chairs can look with some paint and wax. I really like your decision to leave the spindles natural. Very nice, indeed. I saw your link at Elizabeth & Co's party. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey http://www.irisabbey.com

It's so pretty! I think I have 8 of these exact chairs at my cottage! I've been thinking about painting them, and was planning to use glaze to make the design pop, but I didn't envision them looking this good!! I like how you left the spindles the natural wood. Thanks for the inspiration!

Is this spray paint or hand painted? We just bought 4 of these exact chairs and want to paint them white but want to make sure we can see the detail like you can with yours! Also what glaze are you talking about?
