How to Create Your Own Bat Wall

Gather Your Materials

To create this fun craft for your wall, begin by gathering your materials. You can go about this a few different ways. I like to purchase my bats for ease of use. However, if you really want to make paper bats from scratch, you will need:

  • A package of bats or
  • Black construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape or adhesive strips
  • Template of a bat shape

Make sure to have enough supplies to create a variety of sizes and shapes for a dynamic display, both large bats and small bats. Once you have everything you need, you'll be ready to move on to planning your layout to bring your Halloween vision to life.

Plan Your Layout

When planning your layout for the Halloween bat wall display, consider different sizes and shape variations of the black bats you have created. Experiment with different arrangements on the floor before securing them to the wall to ensure it's visually pleasing. Once you are satisfied with the layout, you can proceed to securely attach the bats to the wall.

Secure the Bats to the Wall

To secure the bats to the wall, start by using double-sided tape or adhesive strips on the back of each bat to ensure they stay in place. You can also opt for adhesive dots or a command strip. Make sure to press firmly to ensure a strong bond. For best results, I highly recommend applying to a dry surface, as well as a smooth surface.

Add Finishing Touches

To create a truly terrifying space, consider adding some finishing touches that will tie everything together. One idea is to incorporate some spooky spider web decorations around the bats for an extra eerie effect. You can also hang some artificial plastic bats from the ceiling to create a dynamic and eye-catching display. Additionally, adding some flickering LED candles or string lights around the bats can enhance the spooky ambiance of your Halloween decor. These small details can make a big impact and truly bring your bat wall display to life.

10 Halloween Bat Wall Displays

I used my Halloween bats decorations to create a spooky front porch. I simply added these in a diagonal line above the front doors and tried to keep it at eye level for guests. They go great with my adorable DIY ghosts.

These bats are a bit unusual in their display. I opted to first create framed art with my bats before adding more to the exterior wall. I love how the bats are all aligned together, even though a section is framed for wall art. This is a fun option for indoors or on your exterior.

Fireplace mantels are a great spot for adding decor too. Here I added a few onto my mirror for a fun focal point.

Bats are the perfect accent for your kitchen because they are out of the way and you don't ever have to touch them once they are up. They look great combined with this trick or treat cut out.

I also put them in my current kitchen above my stove area. I added them around my fall wreath and extended up onto the cupboards. Black bats are a great accent against a white cabinet because they really pop.

Looking for another great space to apply bats in your living room? Any fireplace accent wall will do. I love the layered look and it is no different with these bats.

Plus, another trick to elongate your ceiling space is by placing your bats at an angle and extending to the ceiling.

Add a touch of rustic charm to your front porch with wooden bats for Halloween. You can easily create these eerie creatures using inexpensive wooden cutouts from Dollar Tree, or by cutting bat shapes out of scrap wood.

Give them a quick coat of black paint for a classic Halloween look, or distress the edges for a more vintage vibe. Attach them to your porch pillars, hang them from overhead beams, or arrange them in clusters to make it seem like they're flying around. These wooden bats are a simple and durable way to add spooky flair to your outdoor decor, without breaking the bank!
