Fun St. Patrick's Day Activities for Kids
Whether you are throwing together games for a St. Patrick's day party on March 17th or simply coming up with sensory activities to work those fine motor skills for your younger kids, there are a lot of fun activities and crafts to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. And they are all great for families.
St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt
My number one St. Patrick's Day activity is one that I do for my kids every year - a St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt. Send the kids on a treasure hunt to find the pot of gold with chocolate gold coins, the leprechaun caught in a leprechaun trap, a rainbow, or some other sweet treat at the end. This has been one of our favorite Irish traditions that we do every year. Plus, it is a fun way to keep them busy as they hunt down clues.
Here is one that I've done, but you can easily make up your own or search the internet to find one you love:
And here is another really fun one from Teepee Girl if you want to change things up!
Clothing Green Theme
Emphasize the color green in your clothing. I like to buy a fun green shirt or outfit for my kids to wear for the day, but I also make sure that they can wear it throughout the year too. If you don't love the idea of purchasing new clothes, you can also try a smaller accessory like:
Here are a few more ideas to easily incorporate some shades of green into your day.
Green Food for St. Paddy's Day
If there is anything that little kids love, it is a festive treat to go with a fun holiday or St. Patrick's Day party. While we haven't incorporated a whole lot of authentic Irish foods, we do try to stick to a green theme menu, or use a little bit of food dye if needed. This isn't for everyone, but if you are not opposed to using a teeny bit of green food coloring, it's a great way to get creative with your meal.
Here are some favorite green treats and foods we have served over the years.
- Green grapes
- Salad
- Green Top Ramen (I just add food coloring)
- Pickles
- Green pasta - I found some at Home Good's this year
- Rainbow waffles - these are my specialty and complete their St. Patrick's Day breakfast every year.
- Green rice crispy treats
- Rainbow sherbet

Rainbow Art
If you prefer to not go the candy route, making all the colors of the rainbow with fruit loops and marshmallows will definitely be a crowd pleaser for the preschool kids. See this cute idea here.
Green Shamrocks
Making four-leaf clovers from tissue paper would be a fun activity for young children. You just need paper, glue, and green crepe or tissue paper. See more instructions here from The Resourceful Mama. If you don't have tissue paper, you can also try using pom poms and glue.
