Take your Halloween front porch to the next level this year!
I look forward to decorating my front porch for Halloween every year! I am always looking for that perfect item to add each year. If you're wanting to create a front porch that looks like it stepped straight out of a spooky storybook, you're in the right place.

When decorating I love to combine creepy and classic for a timeless look. It is the perfect way to set the mood for trick-or-treaters, party guests, or just to make your neighbors jealous (in a fun way, of course).
Here are 10+ must-have Halloween front porch decorations to turn your entrance into a frightfully festive focal point this season.
1. Floating Ghosts
Nothing says Halloween quite like a floating ghosts. I found these ghosts on Amazon. They are have wire arms that you can shape to give you ghost the perfect shape.
To make your own use sheer fabric or white sheets draped over foam balls or lanterns and hang them from trees, porch ceilings, or shepherd hooks. If you want them to glow at night you can add battery operated glowing lights inside for an extra spooky nighttime effect.

2. Floating Witch Hats
Suspend black witch hats from clear fishing line so they appear to be hovering in midair. To attach mine to the ceiling I used these clear hooks. Or if you want them to be removeable clear command hooks work great too.

These are perfect for creating a whimsical Halloween vibe with a little hocus-pocus flair.
3. Bats, Bats, and More Bats
You can never have too many bats when decorating for Halloween. Stick a swarm of them flying across your front door, walls, or even “escaping” from inside your home.

I get my bats from Amazon here and to attach them I use blue painters tape so there is no damage. To make your own you could use black cardstock or 3D foam versions for extra dimension and drama.
4. Skeletons
Skeletons are the ultimate Halloween staple. Pose one on a rocking chair, creeping up the stairs, or peeking out from behind a column.

I like to add a witches broom and hat to my skeleton sometimes to change it up a bit too.
5. Jack-o'-Lanterns
Carved or faux, jack-o'-lanterns give your front porch the perfect warm glow. I collected awhole bunch of jack o lanterns and painted them black (tutorial here)

I added battery operated tea lights that flicker so when it is dark all you can see are the faces glowing.

6. Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins
Line your steps with pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I stuck with black and white but adding in traditional orange or teal pumpkins is a fun option too.

Pumpkins add charm and richness to your Halloween porch without requiring carving.
7. Sheet Ghosts
DIY sheet ghosts are the perfect budget-friendly Halloween craft. To make mine I draped white sheets and tulle over tomato cages with a ball on top.

You can scatter them across your lawn or do like I did and have them greeting visitors on the porch.
8. Spiders and Webs
Creepy crawlies add just the right amount of ick. Stretch fake spider webs across your railings, columns, and wreaths. But my favorite is to add oversized spiders climbing up my walls.

I have found the easiest way to hang spiders is with command cord bundlers. That way they can be easily removed without damage.
9. Black Cheesecloth Draping
For that aged, haunted-house feel, hang black cheesecloth from your porch ceiling, light fixtures, or windows. It adds texture and instantly gives your entryway a timeworn, eerie aesthetic.

10. Dead Tree Branches
Make a big statement with an old tree branch. I look for tall, spindly branches and then I paint them black. This is a great way to create dramatic height and structure to your setup.

Place them in planters or vases and adorn them with lights, bats, or ghosts. They’re moody, minimal, and incredibly effective.
11. Spooky Porch Sign
Don't forget to add a wooden sign. They add so much personality and a welcoming (or warning!) message. I made the one below out of wood and vinyl bats. It was such an easy DIY but finished off the look I wanted.

12. Halloween Wreath for the Front Door
Top off your spooky scene with a Halloween-themed wreath. I made this coffee filter wreath a few years ago so I just change out the ribbon for each season.

But there are lots of fun Halloween wreath options to buy as well. Whether you DIY or buy one, it’s the final detail that ties your whole porch together.
