Where Do I Find My Furniture?

Before and After, Furniture

I often get asked where I find all my furniture.  I wish there was so magical spot I could refer you to but it is a constant search.  I do find the majority of my furniture at garage sales, I get the best deals at garage sales.  Most of the time people just want to get rid of their stuff so they are willing to negotiate or just have pieces marked low.  The only problem ….. it is too cold here in the winter to have garage sales so in the winter I hit the thrift stores and search the classifieds as mush as I can.

I love to look for old furniture with lots of character and I when I find the perfect piece I can’t pass it up.  However my collection is growing faster then I can keep up so I need to either find a storage unit or refinish faster.

I found these 3 pieces at a thrift store.  The larger c one is a record holder.  The 4 drawers are actually one big door that opens up.  The little chest has 2 drawers on the bottom and the top opens up, and I loved the legs on the top table so it had to come home with me too!

This drop leaf table is so darling and old!  When I found it at a garage sale it was covered in 3 coats of old paint.  I stripped it all down, it is all primed and ready for a fresh coat of paint.

A friend of mine found this beautiful dresser…..and of course I couldn’t pass this piece up.  I have held on to it until I found the perfect thing to do with it.

I found this chair at a thrift store, I love old upholstered chairs.  They look so cute refinished with new ruffled skirts.

I found 4 of these chairs on our local classifieds.  I love their style and they look so cute upholstered over the old upholstery in the center.

Yard sales are definitely where I find the most awesome pieces for the best price. Winter is hard! The thrift stores in my valley are incredibly overpriced so I rarely get stuff there but when I can I try to hit the thrift stores along the Wasatch Front. I have found some great things on My local FB sale group but I’m trying hard to not spend a ton of time on social media. It’s so easy to get sucked in!
I LOVE that sweet little drop leaf table! You are right, those legs are darling! And that dresser is a fantastic find!

    Hi Brook,
I picked up 2 chairs at a yard sale ($1 each!) like the oak chair above with leather in the middle of the seat. How did you refinish the seat of the chair? It sounds like you upholstered the seat… did you remove the leather/upholstery in the middle of the chair or did you just add padding and upholstery over it? Do you have any pictures of them refinished? I love these chairs, but just need a little inspiration. Thanks… Lisa

I have the same table as that drop leaf one! Mine has longer legs! I don’t have room for it, but no one seems to see its cuteness except me.
