I let my girls have some say in their bedrooms for the new house. When I asked my younger daughter what kind of room she wanted she said black. Yep, BLACK. Hmmm, not exactly what I had in mind. Let’s just say I had been picturing blush pink and gold. So I started looking to see how we could create a moody black room.
Wallpaper
I found this beautiful mural from A New Wall and fell in love with it. It was the dramatic design element I was looking for! Now, before you go cringe and think, ugh wallpaper… let me back up by saying this was a cinch to install. My daughter and I installed it together in one day. I love when I can include my kids in the design process. ( I have a wallpaper post, for tips on installing wallpaper).

Rug
Since her wallpaper is so bold I wanted to keep the rest of her accessories neutral to prevent any clash with each other. This rug from Surya is perfect for complimenting the mural, but the pattern also helps to hide stains. It is super soft on your feet. I also found this coordinating pouf from Surya. I love the texture it adds to the space.

Furniture
We refinished the nightstand together, and I even managed to incorporate a little bit of gold into her room.

Since my daughter’s room has vaulted ceilings I wanted a canopy bed to help your eye go all the way to the ceiling. Well, at least to her beautiful chandelier from Progress Lighting.

Bedding
Her bedding is from the Company Store. I am super impressed with the quality. I got her a duvet cover that we can remove easily because white with kids means lots of washing. Her sheets are a blush pink sateen; they feel amazing. I found the throw pillow from Surya to add a touch of blush.

She loves her “black” room and I’m pretty content with how it turned out!
