It is a sad day when you put the crib away for good. Please tell me that every mom experiences this! Part of me is ready to move on to the next stage of life and the other part of me just wants to snuggle a little baby. I suppose I will just have to borrow my neighbor’s. I have some fun plans for my little boy’s room. I wanted to bring you along with me on the whole process to see how I create the perfect room for my little buddy.
Boy’s Room: Functionality
My little boy’s room is one of our smaller bedrooms, so space saving is key here in functional needs and choice of furniture. I also wanted him to be able to have an area where he can keep his toys and things so I don’t trip on them all over the house. Really, doesn’t every parent wish this? I have my stuff everywhere as it is! I think it is pretty important that kids have a space that they can call their own and keep all their things.
Picking the Furniture
When ever I am decorating a room I like to start with my big pieces. When I saw this loft bed from Birch Lane it was the perfect solution to my space conundrum. I have his dresser under the bed, providing the handy storage I need. Behind the curtain it is all open so he can keep lots of his toys under there. It also conveniently hides whatever mess he creates! He calls it his cage… ha ha. The stairs on the far side are drawers as well which really maximizes space.
We also added this metal side table that is small, but still provides extra storage space that is needed. It’s portable and easy to shift around if I need to change things around.
Color Scheme
Starting with a few main items helps in picking the colors that will be used. This bed, the metal side table, and his bedding from Beddy’s created our color scheme. I love this bedding, each side zips up so even my 3 year old can make his own bed every morning. It also helps to keep this small space clean. Once I have those 3 main things, it’s easier to have all the other details fall into place for room design.
