Most of my mirror transformations are usually a mirror as the end result. It’s rare that I turn a mirror into something else, but this old mirror was begging for something new! Take a look and see how I easily converted this piece into a mirror turned chalkboard.
This mirror sat in my garage for a long time because I didn’t know what to do with it. I wanted to really show off the fun designs as well as update and make it a focal point to any home!
My Mirror Turned Chalkboard
Converting a mirror into a chalkboard is a pretty simple DIY project. A few supplies needed and you are good to go! Also, make sure that your glass on your mirror isn’t cracked.
- First, sand your piece if necessary. You may want to do this if any of the previous finish around the mirror is chipping or in really bad condition.
- Prime your mirror with a good coating.
- Paint your mirror with chalkboard paint and allow to dry. Repeat with additional coats if needed.
- Do whatever you like with your frame to finish! I went with a grey-white hue that I distressed slightly to go with my farmhouse decor.
- And of course, enjoy!
I am loving the detail on this mirror turned chalkboard. Chalkboard signs are especially fun to decorate for the holidays, to use as a greeting or to use for menu planning. Try it out!!
