I have been wanting a free standing wall as a backdrop for my furniture. Tearing my house apart every time to stage and take picture a piece of furniture takes a toll on our home, plus it is a lot of work. I have also been selling at boutiques and markets so I wanted something to spice my space up a bit. I had gone back and forth about doing a ship lap wall or a painted wall, I wanted it to have it's own character to add that touch of vintage....I am happy to say I have finally found the perfect backdrop....vintage wallpaper!
Here is how my wall started out looking! Nothing too fancy, actually it was quite dull.
Do you want to make your own? Here is what you need:
- (2) ⅔ inch thick 4'x8' Birch plywood
- 6 metal studs 9 feet long
- 1 2'x4'
- Screws and a drill
- 4 Rolls of Wallpaper
First prime your wall. I used Kilz Latex primer. (your primer will be white, I had this tinted for a previous project)
Next add your metal 2'x4's. I am not a very fond of working with metal studs, but they are much lighter then wood 2'x4's making these panels much lighter and easier to move around. Place one metal stud on each of the outside edges and one down the center of both of the sheets of plywood. To hold the studs in place screw them to the plywood. You can see the screws coming through below.
To make it so the wall doesn't fall over backwards we cut wood 2'x4's at an angle and screwed them to the middle of each 2'x4'
Now it is time to lay out your wallpaper. I wanted my wall to look like it has several years of layered wallpaper peeling off. So I made sure it was random.
Once you have your wallpaper laid out you can start applying it. To apply your wallpaper use the instructions that came on your wallpaper. Make sure you are overlapping the wallpaper so you can rip it off.
Once you have the wallpaper on and all the air and bubbles out begin to rip the wallpaper in various places while it is still wet. Continue to do this across the entire wall. Once you have applied all the wallpaper let it dry over night.
And now you have a beautiful backdrop!
This wall turned out just how I had hoped....that doesn't happen all the time...but it is the perfect backdrop for my pictures and will look great in my booth!
I am so excited to be adding this to Hometalk's #DIYMySpring blog hop.
