Old Door Turned Headboard!

Old Door Turned Headboard!

Before and After, DIY & Crafts, Tutorials
A big part of what I love about repurposing furniture and DIY projects is the creativity that comes when decorating with different ideas. Unique ideas are what can make you different and successful in the business world, so it’s always a good idea not to discount them. For example, take this vintage door project that my husband and I worked on. Who would have thought this old door turned headboard would turn out so amazing!

Now, let me preface this by saying that while you can most likely use any door for this project, I personally believe the older the better! A vintage door will definitely give you a more unique appearance.

  • Step 1: Remove any hinges, if needed.
  • Step 2: Add crown molding. I am so thankful my husband knows how to cut crown. My head was spinning while I was watching him… everything is upside down and backwards to me.

  • Step 3: Sand your piece if needed, before painting or staining.

  • Step 4: Painting. I wanted to make this piece look old and really bring out all the imperfections. Dry brushing does just that, and it has been awhile since I have dry brushed, so it was fun to change things up a bit. The dark gray is Dansbury Downs by Pratt and Lambert and then I dry brushed Sculpting Clay by Valspar over the top!

I left the old hardware on for added character!

I also had this cute little table in the garage that needed a little love. The top glass was broken so I had to find a solution for the top.

I took the old top off and created a new plank top.
Side table refinishing
I love how rich it makes this top!  I didn’t love the blunt edges with the fancy legs below so I routed them for the added bit of elegance!

I completed this look with the same colored paint on bottom for a matching set.
