How to Use Sweet Pickins Oil Wax

Decorating & Remodel, DIY & Crafts, Tutorials

With a lot of furniture finishes out there, it can be hard to decide which to use on furniture projects. Sweet Pickins Oil wax is one of my favorites. However, not everyone knows how to apply an oil wax or why to use it. One of my favorite things about it is that it gives an antique distressed look while sealing at the same time! It’s super to easy to use and timing is not an issue when using it. Oil wax will give you a smooth, hard finish that offers lots of protection for your furniture including water-mark resistance. See here for more details and to purchase. For my latest project on turning a footboard into a bench, I used oil wax to seal everything. See my tutorial and video below!

How to Use Sweet Pickins Oil Wax

  1. Pour a small amount of liquid oil wax into a cup.
  2. Start painting the oil wax using a chip brush. Make sure to get it in all the crevices and cracks! It will look dirty, but don’t worry, it won’t stay like this.
  3. When done applying the wax, grab cheese cloth and wipe off all the wax. Touch up areas if you need more or less.
  4. Let the wax dry overnight, or for approximately 12 hours to seal the milk paint.
  5. If you want your piece to look more distressed, simply leave more of the wax on when wiping. Likewise, if you remove too much then you can add more.
