Create the Perfect Birthday Table on a Budget

My middle daughter is a very decisive person, and when she puts her mind to something she is NOT kidding.  She was flipping through an Oriental Trading magazine a few months ago and came upon a lady bug party.  She has been planning this party since then.  She made lists and told me what she wanted to eat, oh and let me add she turned 6. If I had ordered everything from Oriental Trading this would have been a very expensive birthday party, which just wasn’t in the budget.  So I started looking and collecting anything I found that was red and black.   Are you ready to learn a few tips on how to create the perfect birthday table on a budget?  Here we go!

Balloon Backdrop

I bought a dozen balloons for $12 at a local grocery store.  I like to use balloons as a backdrop because not only are they affordable, they can be used anywhere and they add so much to a party.

Add Candy and Finger Foods

I love to find candy that is the same color as my theme.  I found the sixlets in red and black at Joann’s and I used a 50% off coupon making them around $4 a bag.  I also bought Twizzler pull and peels for $2 a bag.  I added the leftover red chocolate melts to this candy dish for added color as well. Finger foods are really ideal when it comes to kid parties. They are much less messy and easier to serve.

I also found these red gum balls at Joann’s for $3 a bag. What kid doesn’t love a gum ball?

I also bought strawberries and dipped them in melted milk chocolate.  These are my daughters favorite treat.  Yes, they were on her list!  I didn’t mind as they are very simple to make and are much cheaper than buying them already dipped at the store.  We only spent $10 on them!

Sometimes I need a bit of salty to combat all that sweetness. Chocolate pretzels are an easy way to do this and they are a big hit with kids. I bought pretzel rods and used decorative melts to dip them in, then I drizzled them with milk chocolate. The nice thing is that they don’t have to look perfect, making it a very easy party snack.  I made all of these for around $10 and we had leftovers too!Create the Perfect Birthday Table on a Budget | Start at home

Use Jars and Serving Platters

Something that can add decoration as well as dimension is using jars and serving platters that are different sizes and various shapes. I even threw in a few mason jars I had around the house. Just use whatever you have!  I like to use clear glass to show off what is inside!

Cake

I like to centralize all of my decorations around a main focal point. I asked my local bakery to do a lady bug cake, and it turned out so fabulous! The cupcakes were so easy to pull apart instead of having to cut individual slices of cake.  With a cupcake cake I have the ability to do half chocolate cake and half white cake, so everyone is happy!  This cake was only around $30 too, totally worth it!

It is so easy to create the perfect birthday table on a budget.  Everything added up comes to around $80.  This was my daughter’s family party and between both sides of the family and a few friends we had a LOT of people there and we even still have a few cupcakes left!

Creating the perfect table doesn’t have to be expensive.  Make a plan, start watching sales and you can always repurpose items you already have to set up your table. Happy decorating!
