Creating a beautiful, neutral baby nursery can be a tricky project if you don’t want it to look too blah. However, neutral baby nurseries seem to be more trendy so you can continue use with more than one child instead of creating a whole new nursery. They are also practical because it makes it easier to cater in small decor items to whichever gender you will be having. I received some great ideas from Courtney at The Hamby Home on how to create a neutral nursery featuring our cutout “for this child we prayed”.

One of the best parts of blogging is connecting with other bloggers who sometimes become one of the best friends you could ever ask for.  I am so happy to call Courtney a friend. Courtney and her husband have had some heartbreaking struggles with infertility and adoption, you can read about it here.  So when she told me what she wanted above her crib I felt honored to create something special for her nursery. Having faced our fair share of struggles with infertility, I couldn’t refuse!  Isn’t  “for this child we prayed” just perfect?

I love all the finishing touches Courtney chose for this room.  Since they are hoping to adopt she wanted to have this room complete and ready for a baby but still keep it neutral.  This room has been a work of love and one day there will be a very blessed baby sleeping in that bed.

Create a Neutral Nursery

  • Courtney used shiplap as an accent wall.  This is a great way to add texture but still keep a room neutral.
  • Courtney used our “for this child we prayed” cutout as a statement piece, and believe me when I say I feel so honored!!  She painted this sign black to really stand out against her shiplap wall and then attached it to the wall with command strips! (you can view her complete tutorial here)
  • Let’s not forget that beautiful beaded chandelier!!  Light fixtures are a great way to add detail and texture to a space, while serving a practical purpose.

  • When you are trying to create a gender neutral nursery, finding a bed and bedding can be a little difficult.  I love the wrought Iron bed, it is beautiful yet simple.  The bedding compliments the bed perfectly and looks great with the beautiful curtains she made (you can see that tutorial here).  Greys and Taupes are always great neutral colors to use in a nursery. I have also seen plenty of navy blue that gives a little color, while also keeping it gender neutral. The best part about having a neutral nursery is down the road if you want to add a touch of color it is easy to do!
